Can we please get illuminated healing back…or at least have the ability to change which mastery we want to pursue? I know paladins are “melee” based but Denounce and Illuminated healing were so friggin useful. Denounce was INCREDIBLE…and possibly over powered but so is PMRD.
Current mastery sucks. It gimps Paladin in PvP because you don’t want to trinket/sac/bubble EVERY cc because then you’ll 100% die.
So playing max range makes you heal less but they want pal to be melee?
Really bad change imo. They tried to give every healer a melee/dps cd and it didn’t work well.
Just stahp Blizz, stahp
Signed 100%. I thought it was originally changed because Discipline Priest mastery and our mastery were too similar, but now disc’s mastery has been reworked we could get ours back.
Having a mastery based on our auras would be really cool. Which would enable switching.
Paladins aren’t going to be melee based healers until they decide to make all of our kit melee. I hate our dumb position based Mastery, it’s horrible in nearly every situation.
They’d have to rework our Auras if they’d want to go that route, which I’d rather just go back to Illuminated Healing rather than have it end up an even worse mastery than the current one.
I accidentally necroed another thread with this but I figured I’d post this here too.
This. The only reason I haven’t mained pally during legion or BFA is purely due to Hpally mastery. I’d rather go with my sham or my druid. I would love for a mastery change, or at the very least make it so that your mastery is determined by closeness to you OR your beacon, with your beacon always getting full benefit.
I also loved the over healing, but I do see how it was kinda OP. In WoD, there would be times when I would heal a dungeon and would literally never see the tanks health drop due to how shielded they were. I don’t mind standing in melee and healing from there, but there are much better ways to acheive that. Some other ideas for mastery I’ve had:
- Your mastery increases healing sent to / on your beacon.
- Your mastery now stores a portion of dmg / healing you do, and releases that with your Holy Shock or Light of Dawn. How high your mastery is would determine the max % increase you could achieve.
- Mastery increases the effect of your Aura’s and Aura mastery. If this one, I’d also like more old school auras to come back (which it appears they will in SL)
Not much can be worse than what we have. And auras need a rework anyways.
I know this is an unpopular opinion but I don’t mind Holy Paladin’s Mastery (not that I love it but I’m more like neutral about it), I like it more than MW Monk’s and Resto Shaman’s mastery.
As I see it some healers (both Priest specs for example) have a flat % healing increase in their mastery, and some specs like Holy Paladin and Resto Shaman have a variable % healing increase which means it’s weaker when the condition isn’t met very well but stronger when you meet the condition well.
So I feel proper positioning allows me to be closer to the high-end of the spectrum. Rule of Law also helps a lot to make it reach everyone better at key moments. I do see it as an issue that limits the ability to play the spec at range rather than melee and also I mostly do PvE but I can see it being bad for PvP where standing close might put you at risk.
Just my 2c, but I also see how most players seem to dislike it and that should be reason enough to explore other alternatives and eventually change it to something more appealing to Holy Paladin players.
The issue isn’t being able to make it work. I’m not a top tier healer, but I don’t have any issues making the mastery work for me. It’s the fact that our mastery is the only mastery that actively punishes us. Every other class either has a passive mastery, such as Hpriest, or a mastery that you either benefit from, just for diff amounts (resto sham).
For Hpally mastery though, we have to constantly move and position ourselves more than any other class, while also having to fight our own allies to keep them nearby, while not having near as much mobility as other classes such as monk or sham.
I love being in dungeons, a tank is taking huge dmg and running around, but I have to stand still to heal them or else they will die. I can’t move closer, I just have to hope and pray they come closer to me. I don’t have to do that with any other healer.
I really hate the current mastery. At a bare minimum, it should apply to and around our beacon target like it did in Legion as well but I’d rather they just scrap it as a whole.
It didn’t do that baseline in Legion. It was one of the most picked talents in Legion though.
