Mastery & Haste Caps

I’m looking at my build for this tier and have settled in on Darkglare Waistband, which I crated and used all last tier. I primarily play Vengeance, so I found this legendary very useful to help pool Fel Devestations on large packs or big hits. I pretty much felt unless the party wiped, I would never die, plus it looks cool.

As Havoc, I used it consistently too because I played Demonic. Having it reset 40% of the time allowed me to do some serious burst damage, increasing my haste dramatically by way of Demonic. So I felt I didn’t need a lot of haste because of how much time I spent in Demonic.

That being said, what would be the minimum stat cap for Haste? 10% If my intention is to keep with Demonic (both Veng/Havoc), and using Darkglare, wouldn’t I want to stack Crit/Mastery gear?

Last question, Icy Veins and others have said Mastery is our worst stat. I don’t understand this though because buffing Mastery directly buffs our chaos damage and the following are all chaos damage:

  • Fel Rush
  • Chaos Strike
  • Eyebeam
  • Glaive Tempest

The only ones that do physical damage are:

  • Demon’s Bite/Blades
  • Blade Dance
  • Veng Retreat

I don’t use Blade Dance because I’m Demonic and would rather hit with Chaos Strike to trigger Demonic Appetite and Cycle of Hatred. This also helps with Relentless Strikes, which can also trigger another Chaos Strike and refund.

So again, my two questions are:

  1. What is a good Haste Cap to shoot for if you’re running Demonic and using Darkglare. I do spend a lot of time in Demonic form and use Haste proc trinkets (plus blood lust)
  2. Why don’t we maximize Mastery if we’re running Demonic? Seems to me by increasing mastery from 284 (29%) to 599 (45%) with Kyrian seems to be a pretty big damage increase to all my primary spenders. Stacking Vers I might get from 15% -> 20% which is a flat 5% increase to all skills.

Again, I guess I’m confused as to why most view Mastery as the worst trait. If the simple answer is that most run Chaos Theory, and thereby use First Blood/Blade Dance, then a large portion of their damage is physical and therefore Haste is king to stack (along with Crit).

Blade Dance has been dead for a while. Mastery is ok, but sims worse. More haste means more chaos strikes in general, which is better than a tiny bit more dps in a long fight.

Most HDH are NF, so also keep that in mind, not Kyrian. More CS’s also play in to our conduit that potentially procs an extra CS, making haste even better, and vers is our 2nd best stat. Also, mastery is on so many items anyway there’s no need to try to stack it, you kinda get stuck with it in some form or fashion.

Best thing to do is to sim yourself and find the best way to improve/which stat works better.

Ok that makes sense. Didn’t think about how must HDH are night fae so they don’t get the big mastery bonus from the sigil. I did test on a dummy and at 24% base mastery my avg on eye beam was 375 but with the kyrian buff it was 440. So its not a small difference plus it works for glaive tempest. I suppose that’s the trade off though for the Hunt. I think it will be interesting who switches to kyrian later on, some pretty good conduits in mikanos tree.
