Master Volume Drop

I’ve posted in support, and tried the solutions. I thought I had this solved, but…

While playing, mostly in an instance, the master volume will be reduced from 35, sometimes to around 20, sometimes lower, 0 has happened. I have to hit escape, system, sound to set it back to 35.

Does anyone know the keyboard shortcuts to raise and lower the volume without having to go into system?

You’re probably hitting a combo of keys. I’ve had that happen before. Can’t remember the exact presses, but i believe it was KB+Mouse.

I think Ctrl+ and Ctrl- cause that. Do you have keybinds that would serve that function?

cntrl+S will mute in game sounds for sure.

Yea, I have a feeling my G604 has something to do with this. I have the extra buttons set to control 1-8. But that only disabled pet commands, I’m at a loss.

iiiis that the one with 12 buttons on left? I might have the same mouse as you.

6, with the left center and right wheel buttons

ah ok, well mines Logitech as well so might be related.

I’ll try that. If I could just turn it back up mid run, that would solve my issues.

I never realized how much I depend on sounds.

Yeah, that should do the trick. Doesn’t explain why this only happens when transitioning to instances, though.

You could go into the keybindings in the menu and see if it shows what keys are bound to the master volume in game.
Then you could just unbind the keys so it can’t happen again, or set it to a key of your choosing.

No no, not the transition. While running it, in the middle of trash fights.

Ok, yeah, in that case, it’s probably something you’re pressing that’s triggering it. Do as Mokrawr says:

As I said, volume up and down are Ctrl+ and Ctrl-, which should at least let you adjust on the fly if they’re still set to defaults.

I have actually reset them to default, and set my modifications back up, using different key macros for the mouse, and it’s still happening.

It’s also just so random, I can’t relate it to specific rotation keys, or fat finger moves.

Just suggesting something I haven’t seen posted yet.

Assuming you’re on Windows:

  1. Press the Windows Key.
  2. Type “Control Panel” without the quotes and click to enter Control Panel.
  3. In the top right corner of the Control Panel window, make sure “Small Icons” is selected.
  4. Click on the “Sound” option in Control Panel.
  5. Right-click on your speakers and select “Properties” from the menu.
  6. Select the “Advanced” tab at the top of the Properties screen.
  7. Make sure “Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device” is UNCHECKED.

If that doesn’t work, idk, but whenever I have sound issues in a game, that’s usually the first thing I check.

That was one of the solutions tried when I posted this in support. But thanks for the answer.

If control - & + work, the problem will be solved

I figure its better to be safe than sorry, sometimes people change settings and forget especially if it was done a long time ago.

I would bet that the culprit is some kind of addon in that case.
If it seems totally random and only happens in dungeons and its the actual sound setting in the game menu something is telling it to do that.
Do you have any addon running that is out of date?
I know Weakauras can do a lot of crazy things and that could also be the culprit.

Naaa, keep my adds up to date.

Since ctrl - & + control volume, and my modifier for my mouse buttons is ctrl…
I think I may know what’s happening. I do use the - key for primal wrath. it has to be a perfectly timed extra mouse button just before hitting the -.

Maybe I should change my mouse modifier to shift…

That’s probably it, it’s why I asked

I was going to say you might be hitting Crtl + Mousewheel Up/Down, as I think that may also do it (Could be wrong here), but it sounds like you got it figured out.

Thanks! Sometimes a sounding board is all you need to help think through these things.

Thanks again to everyone.
