Half of a year or so has elapsed since we were told we would be able to play classic this summer. Every day the forums are filled with people seeking information on a release date.
Theres no way they are ignoring their entire community and dont care. They are going to randomly release it with no prior notification. It only makes sense. They cant be ignoring us this much right?
From a product development standpoint there is no way that classic is in a state where they cannot commit to a date if they do intend to stick to the summer release frame.
Or, it could be that there is 2 months still until summer even officially starts and they’re waiting for it time to pass to give us a release date…

One of the worst things a software developer can do is announce a release date when they aren’t certain they can make it. We will hear soon enough.
No doubt they still have some contingency built into the schedule for the inevitable last minute surprise. When they are confident they have uncovered all the bad ones, they will commit.

People who respond like you did to this post make me so freakin’ angry.
Purposefully argumentative. My goodness.
Well if the state of the game is in such a place that they are uncomfortable giving a release date, then they are being insatiably rushed and should not release it this summer because it is simply not ready.
Reason being: if they release it in mid september we would be 5 months out. If you cannot commit to a release within 5 months then you are not ready.
Oh no, I made an argument against someone else’s argument. The horror.
We don’t know what the state of the game is and anything we say here is pure speculation.

Why do you say this. They are currently committed to Summer. That is a fairly large window. Why intentionally narrow it if they don’t need to. It just adds risk.
*intentionally and unnecessarily

I can easily imagine the tantrums that would be thrown if they give a release date and miss it by 2 weeks or something to that effect.
“What the hell Blizzard? I took two weeks vacation for your release day! Can’t you do anything right?”

I would rather not have a release date than have them commit to a release date that requires they release without a beta period effectively making us pay $15/month to conduct their beta test.
I mean Blizzard used to be known for giving release dates then going back and saying “Nope, not going to be ready then, going to push the date back.”
They have repeatedly told us the release date. Quit making such a big deal about it. Summer 2019. When we reach August and it still aint out, then perhaps topic like this would have merit. But till then, relax.
Lets say they announce it as a particular day in July. If they miss it by a week, the customers are up in arms and call it a failure. As a software developer, I would call it a success. Not need to commit yet, so they shouldn’t.
I agree, and if they are actually going to do a beta then we will not be playing this summer. A beta should have been launched around the start of the year if they wanted to beta test and stick to their release frame.
They can be not ignoring, and not replying, at the same time.
From a product development standpoint, you don’t announce a release date if you don’t know if you can hit it. They know they can hit Summer 2019, but that’s a wide window. If they can hit June, great. If they can hit July, ok.
But they can’t say “May 1st” then sail right by it.
They don’t need to beta test the content. They only need to stress test the server solutions. We’ll find and report all the content issues soon enough, like that Random Soldier 1 is 3 yrds too far to the left.
Welcome newcomer! I say welcome because the past few weeks we have gotten more info than the entire time this forum has been up. You must be new if you think this is ignoring us. At one point we didn’t have anything pinned at the top of this forum.
GoT just started back up. We have been told summer for classic. By my calculations that means it’s done and the devs are delaying the release until after GoT season ends. Then they too can no life classic without missing an hour every Sunday. /theory

Not necessarily. A 30 day beta could come any time in the next 3 months and still give them time to fix reported bugs and make a summer release.
Don’t get me wrong. I don’t think we’re getting a beta. I absolutely think the “beta” is going to be phase1 with hundreds or thousands of bugs, many of them game breaking, but they do still have time.
Unfortunately for us, as consumers, release dates stopped being about when a game was finished a long time ago.
Once it became easy for games to be updated after launch, release dates became tailored to shopping seasons and quarterly earnings reports. If you see a beta now, you’ve either paid for it through an early access program or through a pre-order.

The customer’s are eager to get the game. That is no reason to rush to a date and possibly disappoint. An eager customer doesn’t mean a neglected or disrespected customer - just perhaps an impatient one.

Hey, this is why I don’t plan on joining a weekend raiding guild until at least 7 weeks from now.

It will drop in September. Just wish they would own up to it.
