Yeah I remember it being talked about in WoD I believe?
You’re right, but necessity really has nothing to do with it. My point is the removal of some thing that was unique(even though this could be said about many things), I agree it’s not necessary any more though. Never really effected me since I main a DK(I have water walk, rarely get dazed & mount speed as a passive) and unlock flying on this toon every expansion. I guess more than any thing I’m just extremely salty at the poor “compensation” cause I really do feel like I wasted my time getting it in MoP. Overall I guess I really can’t stand when unique stuff is removed for the “because I don’t like it” reason.
Pfft, that was just something to do in Mists. And we got to use it (even hating the noise it makes) for years before the mount equipment. I got my money’s worth out of it, especially running my alts around Darkmoon island to fish up pools of crap since they didn’t get the quest item from open waters. It was useful when it was useful. Now All my mounts can water walk - I call that fair compensation.
so would it be more beneficial to just start in legion fishing with the achievement to get the rod? then just fish bfa stuff? I will go back and get exalted with the anglers in pandaria because I want the raft and mount but is there anything else cool to get in fishing aside from that that is in vanilla fishing or warlords fishing
also. does having a better fishing pole really do anything different than the normal one?
The legion one turns u into a fish when underwater and walk on top and something else like mob aggro range? It’s powerful but fugly - a dead murloc on a stick. It’s gonna take a lot A LOT of fishing to get tho
Yeah starting in Legion sounds like a plan. You do need to level up fishing first.
what does using a real fishing rod and lures and baits and such change when fishing?
Supposedly it ups your chance of catching stuff.
Back when the Darkmoon Faire fishing was broke and you couldn’t fish up the quest fish without first catching a ton of junk, it really made a difference on my alts.
Mostly I use my dead-murloc-on-a-stick because I like it.
For upping my rep with Net Pagle I have always preferred fishing in Pandaria - the excess fish can be bundled into crates for rep with the tillers or vendored for much more gold than legion fish… I can’t tell you what the AH market is, it may be better or maybe not. Plus you have a chance to catch one of the tiny carp pets.
There are three “quest” fish you can fish up daily, one inland, one ocean, and one sha-infested. There have been a scant few times I’ve caught then all on the first cast, expected time is around 10 minutes each based on usual experience (a scant few times it has also been 30 minutes for just one
).
Because you are at max level, you can also kill Krakkanon - ask Ben of the Booming Voice (by the riverside near Halfhill) what the daily quest is; he will tell you where to go and if you look for the “large pool” of W/E keep fishing it and Krakkanon will eventually appear. Has a chance to drop fishing journal for fishing XP or a fishing quest item, also mats (he dies fast at max level so keep an eye out around you if there are other max level chars in the area). Please show some grace to lower level characters.
Look for for the Ancient Pandaren Fishing Charm - it’s a toy available for the asking as long as the NPC is up ( Ghostly Pandaren Fisherman ~47.25). It helps much when fishing any pool.
Edited to request some grace for lower level characters.

Lol, that has not been true since Legion began.
Garrison fishing shack dailies only grant 1 level, and only for Draenor fishing, so they are irrelevant unless someone specifically wants to fish in Draenor.

be careful, you start fishing in game, then you want to go fishing more in real life then end up either being drunk at a computer or drunk at the river.
then you get a call about somebody complaining just because you still havent built their addition.
then the wife starts calling about the children needing things, and where you are on n on n on…then you throw the phone in the water and anguish the fact you just chucked your 300 dollar work phone into the same spot you was trying to get another crack at the catfish that broke your line…

My fishing toon has the best fishing equipment currently available:
- Underlight Angler
gives +15 fishing skill
- Ancient Fishing Line
adds +6 fishing skill to your enchanted rod.
- Nat’s Drinking Hat, (also a cosmetic mog)
gives +8 fishing skill and a +10 on use fishing lure.
- Boots of the Bay
equip to gain +10 fishing skill, (also a Booty Bay teleport,)
- Captain Rumsey’s Lager
drink to gain +5 fishing skill for 3 minutes,
This totals +54 fishing skill.
I collected and use these just for fun, but my other toons also fish and are not equipped like this. Fishing in BfA I’m not noticing any difference at all in fishing speed, success or catch type between my optimally equipped fishing toon and my toons using no rod or lure at all.
This is a little disappointing, so if other players are seeing different results I’ll be eager to hear about it.
There is a fishing add-on which I’ve enjoyed using, but lately I’m finding that characters using Fishing Buddy in conjunction with Elvui are only having around one catch out of three actually landing in my bags. When this happens even disabling Fishing Buddy and reloading doesn’t help. I have to also actually close and restart the game.
I wish you could mine with it
strider (plural striders): a person who walks rapidly with long steps
Spell check is not a dictionary. You can add words to it though.
The pole still works, along with most of the traits. The ones that don’t are zone / fish school specifics like “chance to fish entire school in one cast”.
The water walking, and transforming to a shark (out of combat) still work.
what does the fishing add on do? so it sounds like pandarian fishing gives the best stuff. with nat pagle rep and pets. bfa good just for making gold selling fish?
Fishing Buddy does a heap of things, but you can fish just as well without it. Best if you check its description on Twitch.
If you enjoy fishing you must fish Pandaria. The rep will be useful and you have to have the raft and pets. However none of what I listed comes from Pandaria. Nat’s Drinking Hat is from the garrison Nat, the rod from Legion, the rod enchantment from Argus, boots from the Stranglethorn Fishing Tournament and the recipe drops from reward bags from fishing dailies.
There are also glove enchantments, but they don’t stack with the lager.
is there anywhere specific I should fish in pandaria? or just kinda near where nat pagle is located?
If you’re looking for more fishing stuff, check out the fishing artifact. It’s really handy for walking on water and it turns you into a fish for underwater stuff.
I checked and it is still available. Listed as broken at one point but fixed.
reading all that sounds like a lot of backtracking to catch a whole list of rare fish. I might work on that over time. wish I woulda been interested in fishing before now I prolly coulda had that done in legion . same with the pandaria anglers rep. better late than never I guess! is there anything cool that comes from bfa fishing? or should I only fish in bfa for the fish for cooking etc
You could work on The Hyper-Compressed toy for BfA.
