Massive stutters with DF client

Are you sure that the game client window has focus? There’s been a bug with some older builds of Windows that can cause games to lose focus and in the case of WoW, it would default your FPS to whatever the background FPS slider limit is set to. The client usually will still take inputs. Try alt tabbing into another window and back into the game to see if it corrects the issue.

Also, while you’re at it, make sure your min and max FPS limits are set correctly. Geforce Experience was recently bugged and was setting them to weird values.

If you paid attention, you’d see they said this problem started the other day “My performance today is noticeably worse than it was on Friday or Saturday.” No patch to the client has happened that could change things on their end… This implies that it is on Pet’s PC end as in what I suggested in my post.

HMMMMMM

My FPS is usually around 60. Yeah, it’s low and yeah, I have a potato. But it has run WoW for a decade without issue.

Only after the patch (pre-patch?) did I encounter this FPS drop down to 10 or so after doing a BG or dungeon. Or I guess going to Oribos seems to make it worse. And the stuttering FPS always remains an issue until I exit the game. Logging out does nothing to mitigate it. Yet the game is buttery smooth until I do instanced content.

Anyways, I’m guessing something client side, as nothing has changed on my end. Including no updates. Likely some misalignment buried deep in the code that doesn’t stand out but causes issues for people. Almost certainly tied to new content, assets, programming, whatever. We’ve seen things like this before, but I hope they can get their butts in gear quickly and find/fix it. I’ll do some fiddling with settings as some have suggested and report back if I find any success.

Edit: No success are reducing FPS stuttering after being in an instance. However, it is only when I am teleported to an instance(PvE or PvP) through the group finder that I have an issue. Manually entering an instance does nothing to FPS. Also noticing a big memory spike when exiting the game, it is making it a slow process to quit.

Edit 2: Was able to mitigate the FPS stuttering somewhat after checking the box next to Foreground FPS and Background FPS and adjusting them to allow higher FPS. Only did Korrak’s Revenge as my instance, so may not be enough to prove anything. Back to back instance hopping seems to have more of an affect on the FPS drops.

im trying to find a solution for this. im stuck with a memory leak issue. when i have stuttering my memory are cleaned by a program i have. and the HDD start to spike 60% and 100% in some areas and that generate the stutter.

i think. memory is the problem. something are stutter with our memory and the game trying to cache something and stutter…

HDD isn’t recommended anymore at all, so that will most likely cause issues. I got WoW installed on an NVMe and struggle with the pop-ins and stuttering, I can see one CPU core spiking to 100% when it happens.

I definitely notice more pop-in, but it’s not with players or mobs, it’s with trees, shrubs, critters etc spawning in 15-20 feet or so in front of me…has it always been like this?

Absolutely not lol. I have video footage I’ve taken from the past that I’ve been looking at. Nothing even remotely this bad. Im having what you have but with npcs and enemies and players too.

I have this same exact issue basically every expansion I’ve played thus far. As soon as a big patch updating certain systems hits, my frame rate dips to almost nothing in places like Oribos and my game freezes and crashes for a minute or two when there’s a few people in combat.
I’ve run a couple of LFR wings, and when I first enter the instance, I have to wait a few minutes for the game to unfreeze. After that I get like 10 FPS. Obviously this isn’t conducive to raiding or dungeons…. Or even world bosses or rare mobs. Most of the time, when I turn my character the game freezes for a few seconds.

I have WoW installed on a SSD and still experience these issues. I’m no expert and my bias is obvious, but I don’t think it is a hardware issue.

Oof, that’s even worse than what I have. I’m watching my GPU memory usage more, and it is odd that more is being used while exiting the game than during 40 vs 40 PvP. The framerate loss in Oribos seems to be largely centered on certain areas like the hallway to the portals and parts of the Ring of Fates.

Again, to reiterate, we didn’t have this issue before the pre-patch. So the obvious explanation is something done on Blizzard’s end. (this is to the people that keep saying to disable add-ons and such, which I have none of.)

Same I take my addons off before every new expansion prepatch hits.

I keep reading your nick wrong. Anyways, will you check if there’s any improvement when the servers are back up? I’m located over in EU.

Yea most of my Oribos frame drops are in the Ring of Fates (I’m assuming this is the center area on the floor containing vault?). I get some lag on FP floor but it’s not super common.

lol still no fix of course

I was going to search to see if others were having stutter issues and yep, not surprised to see a thread this big. Reloading my UI helps my stutters sometimes but I have to keep doing it. It was fine before DF pre-patch.

Yeah, basically! I took a break before the second raid came out and my game was more or less fine (barring existing issues that have to do with my computer) but with the legion, bfa, slands prepatches my game got all stuttery and lagged to hell :frowning:

Oh man I am having massive stutters when casting Evoker abilities.

Still no fix?

Knowing blizzard they’ll fix it after they sell their broken product.

this error isnt in Blizzard main focus, they are focused mainly on milking money from Dragonflight expansion and the new 12-month subscription… after all, for those who have the problem, it means you’re still there trying to play ergo paying to not being able to play
