No differences in WoW in what manner? The DX11 vs DX12 performance differences?
Oh wow, yeah, I just checked the collection tab and something is definitely broken there. Didn’t think to try that one. If you scroll through all the pages of chest armor or tabards(lots of unique textures), it will skyrocket the client into the 20gb range in seconds and stay there. If you go fast enough, it will crash the client. Normally, texture pools are supposed to cap out at some percentage of the ram.
Outside of that though, I haven’t seen any evidence of memory leaking, so it might just be a bug exclusive to the transmog collection code and how the client handles the render targets for the individual tmog portraits. Even the mounts and pets sections didn’t memory leak no matter how fast you switched around in them.
MPO on or off results in same difference between DX11 and DX12. Anyways, games like ESO uses DX11 and runs great, I suspect it’ll run even better when they add DX12.
They released patch notes. I see nothing for game client optimization, fixes for stutter.
Zero communication on the matter recently. Wish I would have waited till prepatch to prepurchase DF … because that was the day all this started for me.
It’s unfortunately happening all over now more than usual. Before it was only severe in Dragonflight zones… Now it’s severe everywhere.
I’m over waiting for a fix. I’ve given them way to much time to get this client stable.
QFT. The numbers are in and, extrapolating from the raid participation numbers for the same period in the patch cycle for SL compared to DF, we are looking at around a 50% drop. I wonder how many of these players are quitting due to the game engine stutters introduced with DF…
The graph shows the number of guilds that have killed the first and last bosses in the first 4 weeks of the first raid being introduced in a new expansion, comparing Shadowlands with Dragonflight. There is a ~50% drop in the numbers. Those are the objective facts. You can interpret those numbers in whatever way you choose.
Or this expansion is much more casual oriented and people don’t feel so pressured to raid anymore…? There are a ton of other variables in the mix. Statistically, every single expansion has seen these exact same graphs vs the previous expansion that show the doom and gloom of “zomg gais wow is dyzingzors looook at tha numbrz vs last expac!” The game has been on the tail-end of the popularity bell curve since Wrath, the peak of the curve. A lot of us are in our 30s or older and don’t have the time or energy to deal with the stress of raiding for hours and the younger generations don’t really bite at MMOs since they’ve been a stale genre for 10 years. WoW was just the Fortnite of ~2006-2009. Notice how battle royal games have lost a ton of popularity now?
But people quitting in bulk over stuttering? Probably not… This is WoW you’re talking about… A game that many players have thousands upon thousands of hours in. You’re not actually going to spook them away that easily.
That’s 100% correct and why I never categorically stated that correlation = causation with respect to stuttering. There are literally a million reasons why there is a ~50% downturn for that metric in this expansion.
i would seriously consider cancelling over this issue if i hadnt already committed to tank for my casual aotc guild this season. once we get raz down in a few weeks i might just pack it in until fix.
i got a new very high end mac for work right before SL and while i know “macs bad for gaming” i used mac for wow for years perfectly fine until unplayable lag in SoA a month after launch made me finally consider getting a dedicated gaming rig.
went out and got a very high end overkill gaming pc specifically for wow mid SL thinking “please blizz let me use this new machine for at least one full xpac”.
a year later we get dragonflight and sure enough my one year old sick new gaming rig cant play without massive stuttering. ive spent roughly 10k on computers in the past three years about half going specifically to play wow and now this crap.
the money figure included is not a flex. opposite rather to show what a monumental idiot i was thinking throwing money at the problem would help overcome blizz incompetence bc it clearly doesnt.
like if i dont cancel whats the strategy here going forward? wait till new xpac drops find whichever rando dirt cheap rig plays relatively stable and get a new potato every xpac?
