So I decided to try one of the three lorewalking quest things, finally. And it was interesting, altho massively boring in terms of skill. I did the ethereal one, and at no point was it difficult, and a few times I had to sort out what to do (not hard, but not obvious either).
The issue I have is that it DRAGS out for so long, AND you are phased into it while you are doing it. I wanted to take a break mid-quest-chain, but simply couldn’t. If I step out of it, I can’t do any other quests. So either you abandon it mid-way to start over at some point, or you have to grind out the whole thing. Oh, and if you pause out of it (the finish your story bit) it just leaves you where you were in the world. BC, SL, Argus… better hope you have a hearth ready if you do that.
Being forced to phase into this is I assume because they simply re-used the world assets and locations, but being stuck to finish the whole thing is a bad execution.
What indication was there that it was suppose to be difficult? The mode is literally called Lorewalking and is advertised as a connected storyline. It’s purpose to tell a story. If it was called “Chalengewalking” I would understand but this is like saying “Storymode Raid Fights are too easy!” when that exists literally as just a way for someone not interested in raiding to get story context and not a way to challenge themselves.
I disagree, I thought they were paced just fine and the fact that much of the travel is streamlined, fluff for those stories are removed, etc. I do not feel like it was overly dragged out.
This however is a fair point and I agree, there should be a way to return to Lorewalker Cho where you started it if you choose to pause or quit for any reason without needing to hearth. While I did each out in a single setting and thought they were short for the most part, I totally can understand someone needing to stop for whatever reason. A way to quickly stop and re-start where you left off would be a huge improvement.
There are options periodically for taking a break as I recall.
Beyond that though, the point of the quests is to give players a primer on the game and it’s history so that people who haven’t been playing for 30 years and haven’t read every novel, comic, animatic and all of chronicles.
Again, I was merely making an observation that there was no difficulty. It was never implied one way or the other. Folks seem so fixated on this, and I really don’t understand why.
The dragging out, you disagree with, yet my reasoning behind it (the next response) agrees with me, which makes no sense. I point out that it drags out for so long BECAUSE I can’t leave it midway. These aren’t two points, yet you’ve tried to address them as such.
The inability to do ANYTHING else besides fight random mobs until you are done, unless you abandon the entire chain is a flaw, as I stated.
At what point is “about an hour” longer than 60 minutes enough to be entirely misleading to try to make a dismissive point?
Having not done the other two yet, I can’t speak for those, but the Ethereal one could have easily been broken into “chapters” and brought the character back to where Cho was at the end of each “chapter” and had you “ask to continue” or some such. With the phasing dropped at each of those points.
There’s three main facets to the story, and I don’t want to spoil anything so I won’t mention the details, but each of those parts could have had a separation option.
While I personally think the pacing is fine and don’t see a need for this suggestion, it wouldn’t hurt anyone for them to let you pause/resume at parts 1, 2 or 3.
After all you’re reading a book with Lorewalker Cho, someone may want to read a chapter at a time and treasue the experience.
