Marksmanship parses/logs

Hello, figured id see if anyone here can help with this, trying to improve my performance as a Marks Hunter for my guild starting its push into mythic. I cant seem to identify the issues with my performance. When comparing similarly geared hunters they have like 4k more agility than me and cast 10 or more AS and i cant figure out where eirher value is coming from. Idk if you can look up the logs or how to point you towards them now that we cant post links.

The easiest way to find out some ideas of what you might be doing wrong is to put your logs in wowanalyzer(dot-com). It will tell you the most obvious things you did wrong. It’s very useful when you’re completely lost.

For example, I just checked some of your logs and it seems like your biggest issues are downtime and cancelling shots. Downtime means you spend too much time not casting anything. You should always be casting nonstop, since Steady Shot can always be cast no matter if you move or if you’re out of focus. Cancelling shots is as it sounds, you started casting Aimed Shot but you probably moved and cancelled it. Whenever you cancel a shot you still lose the time spent on its global cooldown, so it’s a waste. Sometimes you need to plan ahead and not use Aimed Shot right away because you will need to move.

I don’t think it’s possible for someone to have 4k more agility than you. At best, having agi trinkets and higher ilvl would end up with maybe 1k or so more agi. Sounds like you’re exaggerating.

One more important thing: Your azerite traits are subpar. You need to have more In the Rythm. All top hunters have 2 In the Rythm at a minimum, it’s the top trait by a large margin. It may be worth dropping item level to get better traits. It may be worth to buy random 930 azerite with Residuum (they only cost 9k) or check if any of the Benthic pieces has good traits. I haven’t been using MM this tier so I’m not sure where to get the best azerite pieces.

Yeah its strange cause when using the compare funtion in warcraft logs it shows these similar ilvl hunter at exceedingly high agility levels. I think i may be casting too many precision shots (or whatever the arcane shot proc is called) during the careful aim window above 80.

Where are you looking at for their stats? When you’re looking at logs the stats show up in the summary page. As far as I can see top hunters have around 9.3k agi or so. I only have 8.6k but one of my trinkets doesn’t give passive agi so the proc isn’t measured.

Well since i cant recreate it i am gonna assume the stat disparity was a bug for now. One of these weeks i will get that razor coral.

I will focus more on your dps rotation specifically your most recent Heroic Sivara killed since it basically a tank and spank fight.

Your rotation during True Shot (TS) is complete wrong. During TS, after you case Aim Shot (AimS) you tend keep casting Arcane Shot (ArcS) even if it have two proc. You should only cast one AS or your will be losting dps from the spell GCD alone.
Also during TS, you seem to be focus on casting Rapid Fire (RF) off cooldown and don’t make your AimS the priority.

Here your TS rotation from your log on Aug 16:

  1. TS > RF > ArcS > ArcS > ArcS > RF > AimS > ArcS > ArcS
  2. TS > AimS > ArcS > ArcS > RF > AimS > ArcS > ArcS
  3. TS > ArcS > ArcS > RF > ArcS > ArcS > AimS > AS > ArcS

Here an example of how to do your rotation during TS window.
Get roughly 70+ focus
TS > AimS > ArcS > AimS > ArcS > RF > AimS > ArcS > AimS > ArcS > RF > AimS

Now the above TS rotation is just an example you may be able to cast 3 AimS in the beginning and it all depend on how much haste/focus buff you currently have. The key thing is to cast as much AimS as possible while only cast one AS from the precise proc.

Other mistake I see you do is your usage on your Double Tap (DT) and neck essence. If you just focus on your TS and regular rotation your dps will see a big improvement.

You may or may not know this but I suggested going to IcyVein website and read up on the MM hunter guide it pretty much have everything when it come to hunter related.

If they have more Aimed Shot casts than you, that’s a sign you’re moving too damned much.

As Khallid suggested, run it through wowanalyzer.

Actually Bloodtone’s advice is the most important one here. I didn’t pay attention to your rotation, assuming you’ve read the guides. Messing up Trueshot makes you lose a lot of Aimed Shots and a lot of dps. If you’re not casting 5 or 6 Aimed Shots every time Trueshot is up then that’s the reason why you’re low on Aimed Shots.

When Trueshot is up you won’t be able to move very much since you need to cast tons of aimed shots quickly, so if there’s a boss mechanic coming that you will need to move a lot for, you should delay using Trueshot until you know you can stand still.

Always try to cast rapid fire before true shot for the haste buff if you have in the rhythm traits
