Quick question for the hunters out there,
For pvp AND pve, should I be using my pet if i’m a marksmanship hunter?

In pvp you want to be beast master.
Every ability is instant and the pet hits like a dump truck.
Mobility and utility.
MM is basically dead currently. (IN MY OPINION FAM)

This guide mentions pvp MM hunters should use the pvp talent “Roar of Sacrifice” which would mean you would need a pet out to make use of that. So that would indicate that using your pet in pvp is still a good idea.
My feeling is having a pet is better than not in the long run, as in PvE they can do significant damage and help you to survive.
In PvE, especially when soloing, a tenacity pet makes a great tank.
It keeps the aggro on the mob while you stand back and shoot.
It kind of depends. If you’re in like an Arathi Basin and plan on sticking with a large sized group, ditch the pet. Your damage increase from AoE capabilities will make up for it.
If you’re in an Eye of the Storm defending a base from the stragglers, you want a pet.
Arena, always take a pet. Very very few exceptions.
Hopefully this concept makes sense good luck
PvE and PvP are both a little too broad of categories.
PvE soloing: Going to want a pet, unless you just one shot everything. At which point, nothing you do matters much.
PvE small group (5man, M+): Usually no pet, unless you want the utility for something specific.
PvE raids: Usually no pet.
Here’s the thing: pet damage doesn’t scale up with the number of targets. In a pure single target, it’s about even. But any time you’re going to be damaging two or more targets, or switching between targets a lot, Lone Wolf gets better and better. In small groups, you might need the utility of offensive dispels or enrage breaks, or Bloodlust. In large groups, someone else has a better way to do that.
I don’t PvP much, but here’s my take of that.
World PvP: Going to want a pet.
Casual BGs, arenas: Going to want a pet.
RBGs, high rating arenas: Going to want to respec. MM is trash here.
Go BM. t a lower iLVL I am hitting on my BM hunter harder than my rogue in all aspects aside from a training dummy and in the sims.
The reality of it is that you almost never stand still and need to constantly be on the move, with a BM pet doing more damage than you if you get locked down or cannot hit the target your pet still will and that is a lot of damage that keeps ticking.
I wouldn’t say so. It’s a gear dependent spec though since it’s really best played without a pet. Once you get up around 350 ilvl it isn’t so bad.
Depends on what you’re going for. Most PVP marks I come across prefer to frontload their damage in massive bursts, and for that to happen they need to forego their pet.
They also need to be in a decent coordinated comp. So if you’re just starting out with marks it’s probably safer to just have your pet and use it for the utility.
PvE and PvP MM works fine for me without. If in PvP take Sniper Shot and use it. stay near the group as much as you can.
To actually answer the question: No, most of the time you want it dismissed for lone wolf.
There are niche situations where pulling it out may be good, but otherwise, not really something you do if you have to ask.
BM will generally be a better skirmisher, though.
My take, and how I play…
If you want a pet…be BM.
If going MM and not going lonewolf, you are doing it wrong lol.
Just my opinion. If doing pets, use the pet spec.
Solo pve…depends how mild to wild you want to go here. Basic WQ’s are fine. Don’t pull too much in and it should be good.
Now I had mine hit naz recently at 390 (ish) and didn’t feel so good. Naz and gnomeville did up the mob “fun” so there is that. get skilled at picking targets that won’t bring a party with them lol.
Base BFA I go with little issue really. But I hopped in the lonewolf MM after not touching them for good while so maybe some nuance I need to relearn maybe.
Don’t bother, MM is in the garbage bin right now. And no,NEVER use pet in PVE. In PVP yes and stick them on healers.
