Marksman Hunter

According to World of Wargraphs and my own in-game experiences, Marksman Hunter has very little representation in arenas. Why is that?

Because people enjoy challenging themselves and therefore play specs like Assassination Rogue, Havoc Demon Hunter, and Destruction Warlock.

It has good damage but that damage is very easy to shutdown. Having to hard cast Aimed shots to maintain good dps is also problematic because hunter is one of the squishiest classes right now.

Combine lock style turreting with the survivability of an enhance shaman, and you can see why the spec would have issues :yum:

The other factor is scatter shot and freezing trap currently share the same DR, for no good reason. And MM is the only hunter spec that doesn’t have access to Intimidation stun.

This combined with the fact it’s super unfun to play in its current version especially trying to do your damage while a dh and warrior are riding you like a pony pulling your hair and whispering dirty :poop::poop: in your ears all Arena long…

It’s just not a good spec in this current meta. It lacks the utility that Survival and BM have, while having no meaningful damage output (it’s all frontloaded and kinda sucks). Trying to get a trap on your own as MM is one of the worst experiences I’ve ever partaken in. It’s also rather depressing to finally get off an aimed shot, only for it to hit about the same damage as 2 mongoose bites.

What it especially needs, is more CC and utility. It has probably the worst survivability of any spec in the game right now. Perhaps giving it back Wyvern Sting and removing DR from Scatter and Trap would work wonders.

Mm is super strong in bgs and raids. Not every spec is viable in arena. As long as 2/3 of your specs are viable, i feel like thats a win

MM plays well into destro surprisingly, but I guess most other comps dominate it hence why you never see it.

Actually MM has insanely good damage if ignored, it’s just very strong against casters and not so great against plate melee. Kind of the way it’s always been TBH.

If I don’t get CC’d or interrupted on trueshot any Destro, Spriest, Mage, Ele, or boomy is about to take a dirt nap.

Yea i was about to say i played some yolo games with sticki’s mm alt ~419ilvl and he was dropping 75k aimeds in the opener

Idk if a no stack mongoose bite hits for 35k but i was honestly impressed by MM openers

Nah highest mongoose bites I’ve gotten and seen we’re like 35-40kish with cds. Aimed shot definitely hits harder which is fine since it has a cast time.

A very simple answer is that the specs core design is awful and blizz refused to fix it in beta and on live so what you get is a spec that has easily avoidable damage and no survivability. MM hunter is just a bad caster because you spend more time casting than actually shooting.

The damage of aimed show revolves around two things, long cast time and targets being above 80% or below 20%. The careful aim talent has basically created a situation where aimed shots can’t do big damage, else it will literally one shot people with double tap from 100%.

If they removed careful aim and buffed aimed damage and gave MM mobility, the class would really shine.

Careful aim has been a thing since wotlk.

At that time you could also Gem ARP, piercing shots was 30% extra damage in a blled and iirc hunters had kill shot as well back then?

I really doubt blizzard considers this stuff at all especially in pvp when they make bland classes nowadays

Yes but it was changed in BFA to be upfront damage. Before it was critical strike by 30% and 30% damage converted to a dot.

CA and double tap are absolutely broken if aimed shot did relatively more damage.

It’s not like the “balanced” classes are all that well designed.

I hate destros/sins/fire mages/DHs jus as much as the next guy but really I just feel like those classes are more consistent and reliable then the rest.

Weaknesses nowadays are just straight up design gaps, like if you don’t have consistent damage and your burst goes are easily negated whats the point

That said, no one should condone what DH is as a whole

Too many gap closer classes and burst classes. Not enough shields/lifesteal like mage or lock to survive.

We really dont need bigger shields, disc needs bigger shields outside of rapture imo and more atonement healing with a slight damage nerf shift.

Game is so much more fun when if you gear for all damage you actually do damage outside of cds and ppl die.

Its funny with so much cc and stuns pruned from the game theres still enough to deny a kill but not enough to secure one since only a few specs have damage between goes.
