So is MM EVER going to shine at all anymore in this game? B/c I’d like to bring my hunter out of retirement but only if the spec is even remotely viable b/c frankly I am getting sick of BM being the ONLY spec to play on the class. It’s just sad to even have 2 other specs for the class when the meta for the past 10 expansions has been the SAME crap ever since…

In the “endgames that matter”, probably not. That’s going to take doing what many would consider “unspeakable”.
There are marksman hunters in the top 300 guilds. There are marksman hunters with 3500io. There are marksman hunters pushing for gladiator. Will it be meta, no.

That’s a shame, MM has been the only spec I ever truly enjoyed on hunter in the past it’s sad to see it in the shape it is atm. BM just feels so simple and cliche having to rely more on just spamming Kill Command all the damn time when BW is up:/ Pardon if I don’t remember the whole rotation but I feel that’s how BM is played for the most part since the pet does all the work

Actually, I learned the other night that a 70 MM, at range, can defeat a normal city guard in 11 ilvl(almost completely clothes-less). The spec is actually solid.
But we always have to know the difference between good vs. bad and good vs. better. Skill weight could be more pronounced, since MM has never as much as it did before. They’re more “Magey” with neat tricks and not as much “Warlocky”. It could be the beginning of a new thing, who knows. I’m not going to forget this took 20 months to do and that puts us “20 months behind”. While everyone is in TWW mode, we’re DF Mk. 2.
In Mobile Suit Gundam terms, they get new Ground Type Gundams, amazing versatile machines, but we get Zaku IIs. Yaaay. Hopefully we’ll get Doms and Rick-Doms.
I’ve taken a shine to Hikajaru here as one of the best BMs we got. He’d be someone I’d follow closely, and he seems polite enough.
Bm isnt meta for meta for keys either, bm aoe is awful right now. SV is the best spec for keys, and even then hunter will never truly be meta unless its either doing broken damage or actually gets some group utility and party buffs that matter.

So we pretending that legion seasons 1-3 and sl s1 didn’t exist? Cause by all metrics MM was doing far better than BM. We also have sl s3 and 4 where SV was doing better than BM. Also the Viable part of your question the amswer is yes its always viable even in s3 of DF got 8/9mythic with MM hunter.

Im fully aware but it’s had it’s time in the sun so stating it hasn’t is just a fallacy. What happened when it was having it’s time in the sun? BM and SV complained, what happens when one of them has time in the sun? The other two complain. Point being that it’s a circle sometimes you’re at the top other times at the bottom but eventually you rotate back around. You have a pure 3 dps spec class, whomever has the biggest number of the 3 will be the optimal pick.

I was about to edit it in: the envy was real. I can’t pretend it didn’t exist. It wasn’t a tune-down or anything like that, and the Leg MM was a fine system in its day. It might have been the best-in-decade, or BiD. No: the ENTIRE thing had to be gutted out and its replacement stayed bad until expansions later.
Same story with Mad Bombardier…hmm, starting to see a connection here…
Both Leg MM and Late SL SV got the same complaints: “toxic rotation/gameplay”. Both of them EXCELLED above BM. Nobody who ACTUALLY ENJOYED both itinerations of either spec complained, or even in the same way. The mortal sin was that it made BM look bad. IF ONLY the numbers were adjusted instead of having to undo those systems, it would have been happier.
“Eww, don’t like Vulnerability, boo boo bee boo.”
“Eww, don’t like spamming KC to get free WFBs, boo boo hoo boo.”
Spamming Marked Shots and a phat Piercing Shot on a max Vuln was FUN as all get out, and spamming WFB with some if-you-want-to melee was FUN as all get out. Guess who were the ones that got bitter about fun?
Those were two L’s the class took, and I don’t know why MM and SV mains keep putting up with it. I wish making BM look smaller would be a true mortal “sin” so MM and SV can reign in its own place of eternity where BM can’t be. It can’t be more obvious that BM mains and SV+MM mains cannot share the same house.

They would probably get more people to play this spec if the renamed it to the MLG Gunner since all i have see hunters to is drop down and blast their rapid fire/barrage/volley all over the place like they are trying to 360 no-scope. I can’t even stand playing the spec with how spammy looking it is.

You can thank the BM Mafia for this, because when it was LEGION, we had a system that in the fluff, marked targets and made them vulnerable. Having a chance to use arcane magic to “paint” targets up for discrete, hard-hitting shots that did really good damage. The core fantasy was spot-on. The MECHANICS were spot-on. In its own time, it was the best itineration of all.
It wasn’t the MLG stuff you mentioned. You had Aimed Shot to use on stacked Vuln and Piercing Shot, which did max damage at 50 Focus. All this in the fluff described the careful, patient, and discretionary sniper. Even the AoE was very simplified: use Multishot to Mark every target hit and do a Marked Shot that HIT every Marked target. That was our AoE. Not to mention Piercing Shot and Windburst that hit everything in front of the target.
But guess what happened? Too many in the community complained about it so we ended up with an inferior itineration that remained inferior until recently. Getting more people into MM? WE LOST THAT, and I’m pointing my finger at the right people you need to thank for that. It’s how BFA was just the pits for us, and how finally in TWW…how Army-proof(inside military joke) MM is…
Because now they made MM too easy. Just look at how you don’t even really have to spec Steady Shot for Focus regen, just like something a BM main would be proud of. Just like how MM got 5% bonus for Lone Wolf, “just so it doesn’t have to feel bad going petless”. MM got Beastmetastasized. Beastmetastatis. Barrage, too, migrated to MM; Barrage for the longest time was a Focus-spender for BM; that got metastasized to MM.
So I’ll say it again for the umpteenth time; if we don’t want this to happen, it’s real simple: get MM out, same with SV. Get them out of this house and this relationship TOo-dDAY. Because it’s people who already decided they’ll stick with BM no matter what, but they’ll still have the gall to criticize and scrutinize the other two specs and make demands about how those two should play.

This has to do with how arrows work vs melee and spells. They cant resist, be dodged or be parried so they do better than other classes purely because of the mechanics of physical ranged attacks.
While an interesting way to put it, this is all nonsense fan fiction about MM hunters. There’s no cabal of BM domestic batterers who are sabotaging the other specs by deviously influencing the poor gullible Blizz devs into making the MM gameplay worse.

At least you can admit that some of BM’s buffs comes from illegal tune-downs of SV and MM, but others from legitimate feedback as well.

I feel your pain, too. I main BM because, in their infinite wisdom the Devs have tied us all into a frenetic style of play that forces too much movement, hopping around like fleas on a griddle, making it hard to stand still long enough for MM to get shots off consistently. I prefer MM but only BM gives constant ranged insta-shots.
I think giving long cast times to ranged dps is really stupid. If the DEVs think that an instant casting MM or Frost Mage, or Destro lock would be…oooooh…overpowered, adjust spell damage. But, no worries. I’m sure the DEVs will ruin BM once again as soon as they get around to it and we can commiserate together.
