The guy has always been a putz and his music sucks, but he is getting a raw deal.
Actually he’s always seemed toxic AF and I’m inclined to believe everyone coming forward. He might even deserve some jail time.
But let’s keep in mind that in the United States, one is innocent until proven guilty and as of yet, he hasn’t even been charged with anything. America is a Country of Laws, not Instagram posts.
Oh please. You have a fundamental misunderstanding of the US’s laws. The court of public opinion does not have the same standards as the courts that convict people of misdemeanors and crimes. People can choose who to associate with however they please, and it’s pretty much the same for who they do business with outside of a few protections for certain classes of people (e.g., you can’t fire someone for being old). If slander or libel have been committed, damages may be due, but nobody has to wait to form an opinion based on the evidence currently available. And that evidence paints him as a monster.
I would say that it is you who does not understand the laws of the United States. Until he is arrested and charged by the police, then and only then can a District Attorney present the case to the Grand Jury who ultimately decide if he will go to trial or not. That is the criminal justice system in a nutshell. You’re welcome.
what is his raw deal exactly? This isn’t one former girlfriend with an axe to grind and the accusations are hardly anything to brush off.
I don’t think that anyone is “brushing off” the accusations. I think that some of us don’t like the fact that people can be “cancelled” before ever being found guilty in a court of law.
Try reading it again. Not hopeful you’ll understand this time, but maybe…
I did read it again. From a legal standpoint, it makes no sense.
Which is why he is not sitting in jail right now. The reason people dislike him is because Evan Wood and four other accusers (plus a hair stylist just joined in) are more believable than he is. The reason his label dropped him is because his music sucks to most people and doesn’t sell which is why Michael Jackson’s label never dropped him.
So what? Radio stations should be forced to continue playing his music? People should be forced to go to his shows? What exactly do you think is happening that shouldn’t happen? People heard the accusations and are free to make up their own mind on the subject.
Fun fact. people have been getting “canceled” since the beginning of time. This is nothing new. Alexander Hamilton was cancelled for cheating on his wife.
You have been manipulated by the right into thinking “Cancel culture” is a real and new phenomenon. Its not. As always, if you do something terrible, and people hear about it, they will no longer associate with you. The only thing thats changed is the internet having made it easier for people to hear about it. Thats literally it.
That’s because it’s not a legal issue (knew you wouldn’t understand, lol). What, do you expect the government to force people to continue to listen to his music, to force radio stations to play his songs, and to force people to continue to associate with him? Talk about Unamerican…
Just wanted to touch on this, as a side note, because it’s pretty much completely false. What you said there is a subjective statement based on your own dislike of his music, and probably the common dislike of his music between you and your friends or family. Thus, you have an echo chamber of, “this guy’s music sucks” all around you.
Here is the truth, with no bias:
That real-world truth doesn’t really jibe with “his music sucks to most people and doesn’t sell.” The facts say that yes, it does sell, and quite well at that. You can decry pop music all you want (I’m not a huge fan), but you cannot deny that fifty million people have purchased his records.
That’s more sales than Queen. More sales than Bob Dylan. More than Tupac.
At 50 million, he’s elbow-to-elbow with artists like U2 and Celine Dion.
Yeah, just sayin’. I’m not a huge fan of his music - there are a couple songs that I like - but to say that his work isn’t liked and doesn’t sell is just ridiculous.
I looked this up and you are correct. I retract my statement although now I’m in disbelief of many more peoples taste in music.
His music has always sucked and yes, companies have the right to “cancel” him, but he is still not guilty of anything in the eyes of the law.
No ones said he was.
He’s got a couple decent songs, although I can’t say I’d listen to a full album of his willingly.
In interviews throughout the years he’s always been very intelligent and had interesting points of view. So I can’t fully write him off there either, wether I disagree with him or not.
As for the allegations, like many stars, it’s mostly money and media driven. I’ll decide once the courts have, if it gets that far.
People seem to forget that we are a Country of laws and not Instagram posts.
So wtf do you propose doing then? What is the response you want people to perform?
I would like for the guy’s career not to be ruined and I am not a fan. I am simply an American who is very worried about “cancel culture”.
