Maple Syrup

Do you like it? I could drink it. Actually at a tour of a maple syrup factory as a kid they actually gave us like maple syrup shots at the end of the tour. Probably the most canadian thing i’ve ever done.

What’s your favourite syrup?

I’m actually not a fan. I blame the fact that I’m an American who grew up on fake maple syrup (also not a fan), so the real stuff is too thin and the flavor was not added to my palate early on.

Nope. Don’t like the maple syrup. Sigh. I feel that I’ve missed out on a supreme pleasure in the human experience by rejecting maple, but I cannot do otherwise.

I’m a huge fan of blackberry compote on my breakfast breads.

I put maple syrup on far more food than I would like to admit. my annual maple syrup consumption would probably kill any non-canadian.

It is too sweet for me. My wife and kids love it but I never got a taste for it.

This is the kind of stuff I want to hear about though! I’ve never heard of a compote before. To borrow your words,

I’m a huge fan of blackberry.

Maple syrup is a golden elixir of sinful delight and blissful ecstasy. It tastes good, too.

As a Canadian it’s probably a sin, but I’ve never been a huge fan of maple syrup itself.

I do like maple flavoured things, though.

never change.

I ate a buffet at a place called the Sugar Shack in Montreal a long time ago. Was attached to a maple syrup farm.

Holy hell, the real stuff on ham and bacon is amazing

My tour of the Stroh’s factory was much better than a maple syrup tour. Guess what we got at the end.

I like some syrups but a gluten allergy keeps me from enjoying pancakes or waffles as most alternatives are trash.

I do like a particular burger though. It comes with eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, cheese and importantly maple-syrup-cream-cheese. It is decadent, it is incredible.

Real dark maple syrup is delicious. Garbage flavored sugar water that says “maple syrup” on it is gross.

It’s deadly stuff.

what is your avatar looking at and why is she so sad about it?

Okay, so if you want to try this in a basic way, you get a container of blackberries and then sort of mash them a little bit (don’t puree them, just break them up a little with a fork). Put sugar on them…be generous…and add a tiny bit of cinnamon or cardamom or both. Tiny bit, now.

Stir it up and cover it with a lid. Put it in the fridge overnight. In the morning, it will have become this macerated gloppy berry heaven, and you can spread it on toast or scones or pancakes…whatever.

Real compote involves cooking the berries a bit, and you’ll have to add an acid like lemon juice or orange to it. Find a recipe with ingredients that sound good to you online. They’re worth the effort.

I didn’t realize that maple syrup grading was an actual thing until my mid-20s. I only ever saw Grade A in stores so I always thought it was just a marketing gimmick that didn’t actually mean anything. I just happened to see some Grade B syrup in a store when I was visiting California and it blew my mind.

Lost the diamond in my wedding ring yesterday. It is somewhere in the fridge section of Gordon’s food.

Nothing beats a day at the distillery district DT toronto. Unless something does! WHat are good places to go drinking where you’re from?

I’ve copied this to a notepad. LOL. I can’t wait to try this. I’ve got some english muffins in the fridge I think they’ll be the first test subjects.
