Map won't close with Esc key in Combat

Minor annoying issue. The Esc key will not close the map if you enter combat. It wasn’t like this in the past.

I was looking all over the place to see if this was just me, glad it’s not. The main menu opens and closes just fine, but opening the map with M and attempting to close it with Esc while in combat does not work. It can still be closed with the X button.

Cannot close the spell book with the ESC keep in combat too.

I don’t know about you guys but none of these things close with esc key out of combat either. Something with the new UI seems to prevent this at all.

Following this post as I am having the same issue. Bags, maps, character, etc does not close with the escape key while in combat. They all close with the escape key while out of combat.

I have been having this same issue with many different ui panes. I was thinking maybe it was some addon but I imagine not since more are experiencing it.

Still happening on Live and Beta servers as of 11/12 even with no addons enabled. Absolutely obnoxious change that I do not understand.

Would also like to pile on how annoying this is.

Game refuses to let you open certain windows in combat, AND makes it hard to close them if they happened to be open.

I was having this issue 100% of the time I played since Dragonflight pre-patch.

For me, it was using a user fixed version of Bagnon. Once disabled everything works as it should. Keep in mind Bagnon has not been updated, so best not to use it at all if you cant stand this bug.

JUST KNOW THIS IS NOT A BLIZZARD ERROR!

This only works for the session you use it on. Once you close out and come back, it stops working again. Blizzard please resolve this issue.

Sadly this is not a Bagnon specific issue … ANY bag addon is having this issue currently. I tried Bagnon, Baggins, Adibags … they all have the same issue. Github for Adibags identified that there is some coding change on Blizz’s side that’s instigating this bug with bag addons.

Alternatively, pressing the keybind for that specific panel instead of the Esc key (i.e. “C” to close the character panel or “P” for the spellbook) will close it even in combat.

The issue persists. Where it really sucks is in battlegrounds, looking at the map while at the spirit rez, muscle-memory hit esc to close the map, but it just cancels the rez instead.

World PvP while having bags/map/other windows open, frantically tap esc to close them so you can fight…NOPE! Click the little Xs while you die. If I hadn’t spent the last 15+ years training my fingers to tap esc to close these panels, maybe it wouldn’t be so bad, but this breaks my brain.

Mine wasn’t working in combat to close UI panels, and the culprit was the addon “No Auto Close”.
