I think i read like a week back about a patch where our number of abilities will go down a bit. Did that happen? I honestly haven’t really played since shadowlands and i logged in yesterday to find out a kind of a lot to think of. My keybinds are basically 1 to 6 Q E R T F G H and the shifts. If i can’t run a game with 26 buttons I’m not sure if i can hang. Even on classic i used shift scroll to get to a 2nd bar to make sure i don’t lust on accident and such.
Also, being able to use dig was funny.

We have 3x the amount of abilities as every other class and they all suck. Rsham feels miserable to play in arena.

We don’t need pruning. Our buttons are fine

There are other classes if Shamans have too many for you.

Yeap!
Compared to other healers, shaman is a lot more complex. The problem is also the amount of abilities, but the excess of abilities with CDs and different CDs time is absurd. I need 03 action bars full of buttons and 90% have CDs. It’s insanely complex compared to Mists or Disc.
Complexity is inherent to some classes and is good to make things diverse and enjoyable, but too many complexity can undermine a class to a point that isn’t fun anymore. To me, shaman is almost there.

Then play a less “complex” healer. HPal is pretty straight forward. Please stop asking devs to homogenize specs and classes because you want RSham to play like MW. Play MW if you want to play like MW.

Yea he still hasnt gotten to 80 yet. He probably already rerolled. I find shaman super easy to do. It is the feral druid that I struggle with greatly.
And my friend struggles with the warriors because of their stance dancing but I love that stuff.
Hpal is super easy heals. It would suck getting all the way up to level 75 and finding out you made the wrong choice…most people realize that at around level 10.
He invested too much to turn back now so all he can hope to do is keep moving forward.

Oh I haven’t done anything past log in once since Shadowlands. I just mostly read about how things are going here and pop in to ask how everyone is feeling.

Yup. Although resto shaman is very satisfying to play , we got a lot of utility . Some could be reduced. Cleanse Spirit and Poison Cleansing Totem could be merged ,for exemple.
I heavily suggest all shamans to get a “gaming mouse”
Doesn’t even have to be an expensive one ( got a Reddragon M901 for less than $40, works fantastic)
Having essentially ctrl1-12 on my thumb is nice. Took a bit to learn but helped substantially.

Shaman have always been an engaging class to play well, the problem is there is a large number of “junk” abilities or outright redundancy among abilities/talents that really don’t serve a function in just about any situation.
Totem recall being the best example of this presently.
Ive recently leveled a Rsham, got to 70 and the mere sight of my action bar was HUGE turn off for me, to the point where idk if I even want to play it. Imagine trying to get new players into this game and they see bloat such as this, would they stick around to spend dozens of hours to get to a point to perform decently? Id wager not. I have 40 regularly used abilities on my bars, its just unacceptable.
I’ve played Shaman since BC. It’s always been bloated with some redundances between spell and totems. The issue to reduce bloat would be to separate spells from totems so that they’re no redundances. Aside from that, Shaman is a straight forward healer: Dots (spell/totems), fast heal, normal big heal, then cleave heal/AoE.
You have to look at your Shaman abilities and compartmentalize them. What do they do? How do they work. I get how it can be confusing. I tried to learn Fire Mage and felt that was just not intuitive to play. While it took until Legion for me to understand how to play a Death Knight. And now I think Evoker is wonky as hell to even bother to switch classes to.
As an afterthought, R. Shaman is the OH SH*T healer based on our Mastery. It doesn’t shine when damage is light to moderate like Druids. But the class does offer a lot of utility/quality of life.

I totally understand, its a very complex class and for those enjoy that playstyle its perfect.
For context I’m a pvp player for the most part, and the state rn its doing terribly. I think its mainly due to the bloat and barrier to entry, but I don’t think this only effects pvp. I’m looking at this more so from the lenses of a newer player, which WoW desperately needs. With the simplicity of many other games which are much easier to get into, I see this bloat as a good contributor to pushing people out.
Do I think they should make shaman a non-complex class, of course not. But some form of simplification could definitely be implemented.
I mostly leveled this character as ele through bfa and sl, but as I was leveling my alts using the xp boost and timewalking this week I purposely saved shaman for last. Trying to decipher the specs through guides felt like taking a physics test I hadn’t studied for. It’s definitely good to have variety in class complexity, but the current iteration for all 3 shaman trees feels excessive. This becomes more apparent when you compare the differences that occur when moving from single to aoe builds. Massive changes to rotations and flow, and a number of buttons that could be probably be combined/reduced. Shaman have a LOT of utility, so having no simpler dps option (like ele used to have, as enh has its multitude of procs) can be off-putting.
The class tree is also bizarre. You don’t really want any of the latter talents on any spec, none of them feel fun or rewarding, and they all add to the button bloat. Much of the current shaman offerings feel like individual pieces all thrown together. Rather than spells and totems flowing smoothly as you weave the elements, harmonizing beautifully, playing shaman feels sporadic and clunky compared to my other characters.
For 60-70 I ended up doing a homebrew resto build, probably the best feeling and cohesive (without being trash) build I could make. This is all my opinion of course and I’m not saying shaman needs a complete rework, but it feels like there’s a better spot for at least one of the specs on the playability spectrum between bfa havoc demon hunter ease and df havoc demon hunter momentum.
To be fair, I’m enhancement for my entire time in this game and got to about 65. It isn’t that bad for us but I will always hate wind sheer. Just let me keep my earth shock on my interrupt button as it should be. Shift+4
The bloat issue really only affects the legacy healers imo. The only specs that fill up every keybind (36) are my rsham, rdruid and hpriest lol
But I don’t really mind. I enjoy healers because we get to heal, utility and dps. Other roles only get 2 of 3 jobs.
