Been thinking of rolling a druid for classic because of the utility they provide and during this course it has led me to a couple of guides and other various materials to help me when I hit 60. One of the weirdest/most odd things I’ve found is Best in Slot feral items. I think when designing Classic/Vanilla developers must have forgotten about some specs. Let me explain.
The Best in Slot feral dps weapon is a level 29 two handed mace from Gnomer. Yes you heard me right, this item, when activated, provides more dps then Atiesh does for feral druids. Okay? So as a druid I should literally farm this place til I have hundreds of these maces (it used to have 10 charges, now down to 3?)
So lets say maybe I’m not dpsing, I want to tank. The best tanking weapon for feral druids is a lvl 43 staff (Warden’s) and it won’t be replaced until the release of AQ.
After going through and seeing that this isn’t the only case for feral, but other classes it just give me the feeling that if I don’t roll a warrior (cause god knows how many viable 2hders/1hders are available to warriors) I will be only be really excited/engaged for a handful of fights, since 90% of the other encounters will be gearing me for a spec that isn’t my main.
Guess this thread is to address the fact that make sure you read up on your class and how it was treated end game. Nothing more upsetting then hitting max level and not getting the most out of it.
Classic WoW is a game of rough edges. The key is to use them to hurt your enemies more than yourself. Fortunately, Druids get thick leather gloves for safety.
Druids were intended to be healers as your raid sets will have stats for healing. But a lot of good druids figured out these work arounds so tanking is quit possible.
Congrats on figuring this out before grinding through 60 levels. If the devs had any integrity they’d at least change the official class descriptions to warn people what to expect at end game.
I suppose the message received was different. I will still probably play my feral druids but do we all agree that having a level 29 two hander is not only the best for Feral dps but also Ret dps and probably another spec I’m forgetting, is it a bit odd?
In general, reading up on your class is a good idea.
Though with Druids we’re finding that Feral Druids make for really good threat, partially because of that level 29 mace from Gnomer.
We’ve learned a lot about class builds since 2004. Granted the stigma is still very much so alive as evidenced by these forums, but it’s not outside the realm of possibility that you’ll be able to not heal on a hybrid.
This is because Procs don’t work for a Feral Druid. Aside from being a stat stick, Feral Druid weapons are irrelevant. MCP has an on use effect (and charge based) which means that if the effect outweighs the loss of stats, its a better weapon.
Its not to do with itemisation, its the unique effect of being a bear or cat.
I think you are caught up on the difference between viable and optimal.
This isn’t going to be a repeat of Vanilla where “You must be X spec to raid”. Other than the ultra-try hards, people are just going to be playing to have fun and if someone wants to roll a feral dps druid for raiding, as long as the bosses are dying, no one is going to care.
They were better on a handful of fights namely vael and Thaddeus. But warriors pretty much found a work around on that one and are now using the fury dual wield tank build that gets stupid amounts of threat.
