So, I was listening to a Platinum wow video waiting for my friend to get off work and he was talking about Troll Lore. I’ve listened to the video countless times so even I’m curious where this thought came from.
But we know that Night Elves are formerly Trolls. Cenarius and the Well of Eternity transformed a tribe of Dark Trolls that moved there after they ran the Taunka out of Dodge.
And we know Cenarius taught the first Night Elves Druidic Magic. But we also know Malfurion was the first Druid to learn from Cenarius.
Does Malfurion remember life as a Troll?
And here’s why the question bugs me, after the War of the Ancients and the Well of Eternity blew up, the “Holier than thou” magic using Night Elves were evicted, and the Druidic Night Elves began working with the Druidic Tauren (after the Tauren returned to Cenarius way later and were transformed themselves from Taunka to Tauren). But even among the ranks of these N.Elf Druids, they refused to agree to mutually beneficial trade because the Tauren were far too “Beastly” of a race… Basically saying they weren’t pretty enough… The Druidic Night Elves that supposedly kicked out the “Holier than thou” ones. The Druidic N.Elves that were once Trolls themselves. The Druidic N.Elves led by Malfurion.
Like this guy SHOULD BE the face of cross faction peace. A former Troll who specializes in a magic focused on peace and balance. So, why doesn’t Malfurion wake up and affect real change?
I dont think malfurion was ever a troll so, probably not?
Not all Taurren are the same. They are structured into tribes. The tribes that practice the druidic talents were not the same tribes that romed the planes down south. So they did not open trade with the taurren because the ones down south were far to savage to deal with.
That’s why I layed out the facts that prove Malfurion was one of the first Trolls transformed by the Well of Eternity. Seeing as the first N.Elves were the first taught Druidic magics and Malfurion is canonically confirmed to be the first one taught by Cenarius.
But if the evolution took multiple generations then maybe another 1 or 2 as N.Elves before he started teaching perhaps then we can say Malfurion was never a Troll. But we have to remember that the original N.Elves were also bestowed with immortality pretty quickly because of the connection to Cenarius leading to the original World Tree.
Do you have any confirmed facts from Blizz like this to prove that the transformation took multiple generations of Trolls to achieve? Or that Malfurion was among the first to achieve the full transformation? Because that’s what I’m laying out. You can look up all these facts for yourself in Lore databases, including Blizz themselves. So I’d like to know what your proof is to support your statement.
Agreed, the first Tauren Druids were the ones that originally settled near the well after the Mogu Empire collapsed and the Panda got the slaves their freedom. Those Taunka migrated north, some settled near the well and some continued further north. The Tauren that originally settled near the well before the Dark Trolls rolled in and they pieces out.
It is a curious thought that the Well of Eternity, a powerful font of pure magical energies, is so closely connected to the very core of Druids and their nature based magics.
You seem to have some confusion here.
The first well of eternity did not bestow immortality.
The first well of eternity was destroyed, night elves did not get their immortality until the birth of nordrassil which came from Nozdormu blessing the tree which then granted them immortality.
Hey I will conceed the point if you can point me to some information confirmed by Blizz to support this. Because this one nugget is the linch pin of what’s bugging me
Also I never said he was transformed into a Troll. I’m saying he was one of the original Trolls to be transformed into the N.Elves by the Well of Eternity.

I didn’t say the Well bestowed Immortality. I said that happened quickly after their transformation through the World Tree. No confusion on my part
That has never been said or suggested in any capacity of any lore from blizzard at any point.
Malfurion has always been a night elf as we know night elves to be currently.
Also the well is not connected to druidic magic, its connected to arcane magics.
Technically titanic magics, but titans are arcane so 6 to some half dozen to another.
I’m going to refer you back to the original post at this point. Because every point I laid out in the original post is canonical and confirmed by Blizz. So, it is entirely possible that Malfurion could have been a Troll in some capacity before achieving full transformation. Because Trolls also have an incredible lifespan like N.Elves and it’s entirely probable that the original Dark Trolls that settled near the Well are also the first Night Elves. That’s just how powerful the Well is.
I don’t get why you’re getting upset. I presented confirmed facts and when you started throwing theories at me that sounded good I asked for your proof and you got defensive. I’m not hear asking for theories. I’m here asking for directions to ANY confirmed proof that Malfurion wasn’t Troll turned Night Elf.
And the Well being directly involved in transforming both races into something else capable of harnessing Druidic Magic doesn’t feel like a connection to you?
Its not though. You have your time line confused.
Trolls are long lived but they are not immortal.
Im not upset about this im just telling you, your time line you have in your mind is not correct.
The well has nothing to do with druidic powers or magics, its completely arcane in nature, but massive exposure to arcane can change creatures over time. IE the dark trolls into night elves.
The time line is, dark trolls were out unga bunging around and found big magic pool (Well of eternity.)
The well of eternity is (going off of orignal lore) a massive pool blessed with arcane energy from the titans. New lore life blood of the world soul which is also arcane magic.
The dark trolls exposure to the arcane magics from the well of eternity over thousand and thousands of years changed them into the elves we know today and their empire spanned across the globe.
At this point, elves just lived a very long time, they lived and died still, they had well beyond evolved past being trolls.
On top of that in the war of the ancient series it talks about the child hoods of tyrande, malfurion, and illidan, which at this point the elf socity was fully functions and were in no way resembling trolls, at all.
The well was then destroyed, and a world tree was grown and blessed by teh dragons to give night elves immortality.
