I hope i am wrong but… I think they may wait a month or two and then let malefic cores unlock unlimited times a week in visions/raids to add subscriptions during a down period or perhaps at the start/end blizz’s finacial quarter.
As a new player, ive been doing some napkin math and it doesnt look like i’ll be able to catch up in corruption resistance until we are weeks away from shadowlands launching. It takes 5 weeks to get rank 15 cloak, then 10 more weeks to get to max corruption assuming I can do 6 per week. I play the game for pvp, and I cant compete in high end pvp without max corription resistance.
Are there plans for a better catch up mechanic or should I unsub until shadowlands?
The cloak is not the only thing that will hold you bank, you need lots of essences, a high necklace level (easy to get) and better than average gear which is pretty RNG based.
If you haven’t done any BfA content to this day, you will have to grind a LOT of rep and honor to get decent essences for PvP, and then get lucky with corruptions to be able to kill someone because he kills you.
If you are whiling to go through lots of grinds to be able to PvP stay subbed, otherwise wait until PvP gets “reseted” in shadowlands.
Seriously we need more catch up on cloak resistance. All my alts are and will be behind a ton of resistance because they weren’t rank 15 as soon as it was possible and I don’t raid.
It’s already hard enough to stay competitive in arena with the huge chore list across all my toons…
Unfortunately, you wont be able to catch up with the cloak until the xpac is over like you said. However, I hope enough people voice their opinion to get Blizz to remove the restriction while there’s still time left. I really want to gear some alts just to see what they’re like. But as of now, I’m forcefully locked into the 2 toons I’ve been keeping up to date with.
It’s not worth coming back or gearing alts until Blizz removes the 2 malefic cores per week restriction. What’s the point of adding a corruption vendor if we can’t even equip the corruptions…
I honestly have to wonder if you are actually serious or just trolling with a comment like that. Yep, you can’t use corrupted items unless your cloak is +80 resistance. I mean it’s not like we haven’t been using corrupted items LONG BEFORE this was even a thing…
Do you have any alts? Mains that have been keeping up greatly benefit from the corruption vendor. Enlighten yourself please, make a fresh 120 and get back to us when your cloak is fully caught up…
And you think I’m the troll…
This is literally the reason I am limiting my time playing already after having come back to the game 3 weeks ago after an 8 month vacation. I’ve almost completed the grind on one character, I’m not doing it again… It’s not fun.
I want to be able to enjoy playing my alts, but in order to keep them relevant you are forced to do a never-ending list of chores.
Chores aren’t fun.
The cloak and neck should’ve been BOA in my opinion. Having to regrind these systems on every toon instead of being able to enjoy playing them is very distasteful.
I am not an alt-a-holic, so three 120s is enough for me but it’s no where near as bad as you make it out. As for fresh 120s, my point was you don’t need a maxed out cloak to use corrupted items. We have been using them since the system came out, back when we only had a handful of resistance.
Sure you won’t be on par with someone who has been active the entire time and you probably shouldn’t be…
As for you thinking I am a troll, I can’t tell you how little your opinion of me actually matters ![]()
If you put in 100 hours over 3 months you’re not better or more entitled to player power just because you did the weekly minimum. If someone wants to make a new character and put in those 100 hours in a week to catch up… let them. If they play the same amount in the end, who cares. Why punish people for having a life outside of wow? The 2 malefic cores per week is hurting the sub count more than helping player retention. Blizz wont make any changes until subs take another dip like they did with the corruption vendor.
ditto bud
If it took you 5 weeks to get Rank 15, you are doing it wrong.
Most people will only get 3-4 vessels a week. I think you only get an extra 2 or 3 when you first start doing them. If they’re soloing them, there will still be a number of quests they can’t one shot even after the changes. If they’re not just on an alt and haven’t done them before, it’s also not unlikely they’ll fail some vessels while learning visions. It will easily take a month for some people to get a cape to 15.
The resistance system after level 15 is inexcusably terrible garbage currently.
It’s June. Shadowlands is supposed to come out this year. There’s no defense of how slow and time-gated the “catch up” systems still are. Echo gains are slow outside a couple of activities on top of the laughable rotation system which makes you wait a month before the corruption you want is up again. A lot of level 3 essences still suck to get. Cape catch up changes were minimal and mostly only helped at 11+. Resistance catch up is a joke.
Visions are boring anyways. Give everyone resistant cap. No one wants to do these. They are incredibly tedious.
Hrm, I never do dailies and my alt has a 59 resist cloak after maybe 3ish weeks. I think I was still 3-4 research points away from the bottom of the tree too.
I get people hate Visions, I just don’t see what the big deal is with a catch up mechanic like this is? If you start brand new it might take 10 weeks to catch up right now and the system only lasts another 14 weeks. Not to mention how little most of those ranks on the cloak mean. Exactly nothing about my gameplay changes for 3-4 weeks at a time. It’s not like I am going to add another TD if it takes me into Cascading Disaster.
Also, now you can spend echoes on Vessels. It just got a lot faster. 4 Vessels a week if you do all the dailies? ish? another Vessel if you do all your emissaries? then whatever you get echo wise from the Visions.
Could probably take a decently geared alt 8 ranks solo in 1 week without any raiding or M+. Shoot, could definitely get a 56 cloak in 1 week if you wanted to ruin your wrists.
Each individual one doesn’t mean much, but think about a new or returning player.
It’s a pretty big power gap that requires a lot of time investment to begin to close, and even then there is a barrier of weekly limits.
The power creep from fresh 120 to current might just be the biggest it’s ever been in this expansion.
Just looking at world bosses, which drop normal raid level loot, you have a 90 item level difference from the first ones to the current ones. But that’s only one part of the power difference, then you have HoA, Essences and Cloak to deal with.
Doesn’t HoA stay 1k per rank until at least 80? Blizzard pretty well got rid of the catch up grind for that one.
The only one of those I really despise is essences.
Core catchup should be this (1 core from each activity):
0 mask full clear
1 mask full clear
2 mask full clear
3 mask full clear
4 mask full clear
5 mask full clear
Normal N’Zoth
Heroic N’Zoth
Mythic N’Zoth
That’s 9 cores you can get a week if you are severely behind (and have the social network for the mythic nzoth kill). And then if you do the same the following week. Remember the cloak was datamined to go up to 125 resistance up from base 50 at rank 15. So that means 25 upgrades. Blasting out 16 upgrades in 2 weeks or 24 in 3 weeks is an ideal way to provide catchup. Hell doing this sort of catchup system will provide easy ways of catching up even in late August (final cloak upgrade is on September 8).
I didn’t consider echoes, though there’s a huge opportunity cost of spending echoes on vessels instead of saving them for corruptions. Especially considering that might make you miss a rotation you wanted and then you have to wait another month before the corruption you want is available again. Even essences from echoes completely suck now in terms of opportunity cost.
Even if the numbers are accurate, taking multiple months to catch up when there are only 6 months left in the year and SL is supposed to come out this year is actually really really awful. You catch up just in time for it to all no longer be useful and not get any value out of it?
The catch ups at this point should be very fast so you can get on an even playing field, especially in PvP and actually enjoy the rest of the expansion rather than the rest of the expansion being a long drawn out list of chores.
Getting to 80 is faceroll, but I’ve seen people claim there’s still significant power to get out of it by pushing it past 90 which is a lot of time to put into a single character for most people. Essences scale with the amulet level I believe.
