Is there some kind of competition at blizzard to keep making ugly zones? I don’t get why they would want to make such an ugly place for players to have to suffer through. It’s so dusty and gooey and just yuck.
Aren’t the plague lands enough? Did we really need a sequel?

Ugly? I don’t think so. It’s just not my thing. But depending on what each Covenant has to offer aesthetically I may be willing to deal with it.

My buddy here from Maldraxxus asked me to clarify. What exactly do you mean, ugly?

See that’s just goofy. It’s so ugly, it’s dumb.
It’s like New Jersey. Thankfully it doesn’t smell like New Jersey.

You look at Maldraxxus and think it smells better than New Jersey?
I’ mean I’ve never been to New Jersey but I can’t imagine it could smell worse than the ugliest zone they’ve ever created.
I mean, it’s not real and my PC can not generate smells. Jersey, however, is an unfortunate and smelly reality.
It’s out there. Right now.

Some zones are aesthetically ugly, like Drustvar and the Dread Wastes. While they look ugly, the theme is consistent. Their ugliness makes sense in the lore; the artists try to make you feel the ugliness intentionally, but it can still look good.
Examples of truly “ugly” zones would be like the Borean Tundra, where the color scheme is all over the place and is generally a pain to navigate. The Blasted Lands come to mind as well, the orange hills being a painful contrast to the purple stone roads.
I think Maldraxxus is pretty consistent with its artstyle. All the zones in Shadowlands fit their role pretty well and pass in my book.

Why is it always light zealot that hate on maldraxxus? Do they know that bastion is the most boring zone of the 4?

DO NOT GO. Repeat. I drive in that state for a living. SOOOO MANY entitled rich people holy moly! For you and Wasselin’s sake!
It’s not to my taste, AT ALL, but it does fit the afterlife theme. Spooky death zone. Whatever.
The worst zone in the game appearance wise is probably Thousand Needles. It was boring in Vanilla, it’s boring now, it’s ugly and pointless and annoying to navigate and

I’ll need to see more of it, but it doesn’t look great so far.
The Broken Shore/Argus are the ugliest zones in recent memory for me though. Fel stuff is just so boring and abrasive.

It’s a macabre undead zone.
And it’s 100 times better than the broken shore in legion.
I cannot believe I had to actively go there for class mount quests and flying achievements.

I mean…yes…I love these themes. I also love Ooze themes and am stoked for the Ooze people.

Of course we show intimidation and fear to our enemies by being pretty!
I’ve been on the beta and navigated through the ugly and visually inconsistent zone of Maldraxxus and let me tell you it really takes the cake. The ugly, putrid cake.
At times it seems to try to take itself seriously, other times they put a flower crown on an abomination, because… reasons I guess.
I guess it just annoys me because we’ve already done this zone.

It’s not that ugly but it is quite bland and the color scheme is not good. They made some really good looking undead/scourge zones in the past. Naxx ofc is prime in looks. Even old WPL and EPL looked great and somehow had the perfect combination of bleak and vibrance to it to work well.
Maldraxxus is very disappointing for the zone I was looking forward to the most.
