So this may be a bit much, but lets think of a game like SWTOR. And it’s leveling system, and it’s progression through the story.
Now look at WoWs. Let’s be honest, leveling in WoW is not fun, it’s extremely boring.
Imagine taking SWTOR’s leveling system and storytelling, and WoW’s end-game. It would be amazing.
WoW is pretty much only endgame at this point. They are kind of solidifying that next expansion. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, it’s just a WoW thing.
As long as you enjoyed being sent to destroy random piles of garbage in the middle of a desert. Unless you mean after Jump to Lightspeed, in which case you can change that to random piles of garbage in space.
dude you’re bumming me out now. when i was way younger i had no interest in mmos, and now when im older and can see how awesome swg is, the servers are down. i wish I played it more when I was younger haha
I personally did not enjoy the SWTOR story/leveling system.
The pvp, when it first dropped, that was amazing (… subjective); however, when it went FTP (free to play) SWTOR took a serious nose dive in all areas. (… again, subjective.)
And here, I stop taking you seriously.
I still remember the first time I logged into SWG. I was a complete noob and was out killing a random mob. Some dude rolled up on a speeder and asked if I wanted a house and some gear. He hooked me up with a lot of free stuff for absolutely nothing. I really enjoyed that game a lot. I still have my SWG discs around somewhere.
I can’t speak to that, I’ve never even looked at SWTOR. That’s just most of what I remember from the brief time I played it. Looking back I’d probably prefer the sandbox more now.
I should clarify what I mean by the leveling system from swtor.
I mean the character depth. the mass effect style of choice, the fully voice acted cutscenes, that kind of stuff. But like… Literally nothing else from the game.
Maybe the player housing, since I’d say they did it right.
SWTOR is 100% every single system worse than Retail WOW. Some not by much, and the server mergers have made the game very active lately. PVP is almost instant queue, BUT Bioware is HORRIFIC about making new content. In every sense of the word. The game is far from dead, but BfA and 15 years of WOW content take down SWTOR any day of the week. Period.
EDIT: If you are a new player, SWTOR original story will be amazing, and then that is it. Worth the free download. Not better than wow in the long run in any way, shape or form. Just doesn’t have the replay value.
Oh for sure, Im not in anyway trying to say SWTOR is better than WoW. I just think that leveling in SWTOR was a hell of a lot funner than it was at WoW. And if SWTOR had any meaningful end-game, and wasnt on a terrible dated engine, It could definitely compete with WoW. But the lack of care for the game definitely cripples it.
SWTOR (at least when it first came out) was a complete cut and paste of WoW. They took a Warrior, all of his moves and renamed it Sith Warrior/Jedi Knight. A Jedi Counselor had the same exact move set as a Priest. It was soooo unbelievably blatant that they were trying to cash in on WoW’s success.
SWG was a far from perfect game (bugs galore, rubberbanding, etc.) but at least it was a unique game. For all of it’s ups and downs, I had a great time in SWG.
Leveling through new content is fun. I enjoy it thoroughly. I enjoy it so much I can do it more than once without flinching.
But leveling through old content again and again is lousy. I have repetitive games on my phone I paid five bucks for. I don’t need to give Blizzard $15 a month to do the same thing repeatedly.
I really feel like Blizzard has been coasting for about six years now when it comes to WoW. Coasting along doing the bare minimum and failing at most of their attempts to make other good games.
We pay for their fail game attempts that never see the light of day and get mediocrity in return.
Well with classic’s success we will be getting a return to form for the next expansion and if they don’t deliver might as well abandon ship and find a new hobby. They already took a step in the right direction by removing titanforging. Next thing they need to do add all our pruned abilities back and remove the artificial time gating of content. If some try hards want to grind hard to get rep or whatever then we should have the freedom to do it.
I liked SWTOR’s leveling in their vanilla version. It got tiresome doing exactly the same thing over and over again during the Fallen Empire expansions.
