i was thinking a bit today.. and thought. what if pets are worth collecting and leveling, and useful while ‘active’ and ‘out’.
pets have certain function! nothign major. just minor, like racial traits.
1: deal some damage, like ‘bite’ the target. nothing threatening. basically, like a bug bite in real life.
2: can do some crowd control mechanic. depending on rarity and level. maybe even ‘clothing’ or food
3: had ‘world’ value. helped with farming, exploring, and professions(depending on level, rarity)
kind of like the ‘loose soil’ in War Within.
4: not killable, just fun inclusion and reason to have, collect, and experience.
i want my pet out in pvp, biting my enemy 1 damage at time and what that would look like

I recall for a very limited time there was a bugged pet that did do combat damage in vanilla and it was a mess.

I would like them to make pets/pet battling more fun and worth doing. I don’t think this is the way to do it. You’d sort of force min maxers into you. Pet battling needs to remain totally optional.

I wouldn’t mind having a pet I could send out to gather one specific herb or one specific ore, sort of like the Nuls from Hello Kitty Island Adventure. Maybe limit their activity to 1 hour with a 24-hour cooldown.

Sadly pets is just another long list in abandons features in game. Other than adding in a few pets here and there they haven’t done anything with mechanics, and such since MoP.

At best you could possibly ask for them to be added to your house so they can be out an active there.
Would be cool to theme rooms around certain pets, but that’s about it honestly. Glad they finally realized what that the whole system was pointless, wasted dev time.

I have over 1800 of them and I want to be able to put them in my house if I can’t murder critters anymore with them, darn it. I have so many puppies and kittens!

Battle pets were fine as they were, they needed nothing added to them. And they still ruined it
Well, they’re done with any sort of development on pets and pet battling, so they definitely will not be making it more fun or worth doing.
Pets were developed to squeeze more cash out of collectors. They have eclipsed that with housing. So pets are now abandoned.

Give me a faster way to loot.
I’m a druid for crying out loud. I haven’t got time for looting and summoning mounts. This is all the other scrub class stuff.
If it takes a pet, gimme a pet. If it takes that boomerang make it faster and better.
Or, just let it all get mailed to me and I’ll never loot again.
I’m trying to recall, I think it was a squirrel from kalimdor years ago that if you had him out occasionally he would take off and go aggro mobs. Fun times.
There exist a number of useful utility pets already that act as campfires, anvils, mailboxes, etc. They’re just sprinkled very thinly across a large collection.
There could easily be more that I simply haven’t discovered because I’ve never had the right pet active at the right situation. I’m not sure adding a greater burden of obscure trivia to keep track of would really be healthy for the game at this point.

I’d be happy with the ability for mages to pick a pet from their catalog to act as their arcane familiar. Don’t get me wrong, I love Orbo. I’m glad he’s not a bird anymore. That was a harrowing couple of weeks.
But if I could assign any pet to act as my familiar that would be astounding. I’d even settle for restricting it to the arcane/magic family of pets.

On another note. Blizzard not having a battle pets mobile game so people can battle and collect that is a companion app for the game is a huge cash missed opportunity.
Guess it’s easier to try and fish sales out of a mobile lite Diablo 4 by locking decor behind a preorder
And they are phasing out new content starting with Midnight
