Right now ground mounts serve no purpose other than AFK in the city (except the ones with Vendors).
Anything they can do, flying mounts can do. Flying mounts can do things the ground mounts can’t.
I can’t speak for anyone else but that really devalues ground mounts to me. But I like ground mounts. I wish there were situations where using a ground mount was objectively better than using a flying mount.
So my suggestion is simple: Allow us to fight while mounted on vendorless ground mounts only.
Now all types of mounts have a use.
No Mount: Useful for combat in places where you can’t use a mount.
Ground Mount: Useful for faster combat movement in places where you can use a mount.
Flying Mount: Useful for long distance travel.
Aquatic Mount: Useful to go see that Spongebob reference in the sea around Isle of Dorn.
You can do that, but you can also use a flying mount and it doesn’t make any difference.
On the other hand, if you want to fly it makes a huge difference.
I just want there to exist situations where using a ground mount is the objectively correct option, because the way it currently works it’s much easier to just keybind a flying mount and ignore ground mounts completely
Rider DKs could even get some passives or even active spells to make mounted combat even better for them
I have a better idea, put the DRIVE system on all ground mounts. It will put them on par with Skyriding. It will allow ground mounts to go much faster and be more fun.
I like my flying mounts big and bulky. But if I’m in Warsong Gultch I can’t go through tunnel with a bulky mount. I have to dismount instead of gliding on my mount halfway up the tunnel. The difference is huge. Also I just got the Voidfire Deathcycle, and I’ll be looking good in those WSGs!!!
That’s your preference, and I’m not gonna say you shouldn’t have such preferences, but the whole tunnel thing applies to flying mounts as well as ground mounts.
A smaller mount is generally better so you can fit in tight places and not collide with the terrain.
It doesn’t make a whole lot of difference in the open skies, but it makes a LOT of difference in skyraces and if you’re trying to fly into a building or cave.
That’s one of the reasons why I favor the flying horses. They look good in the air, they look good on the ground, and they fit through doors.
