*Ignoring the fact that the tooltip says the Doomguard will be a Guardian but instead is summoned as a Pet…
An iconic ability that, in its current state, seems to flow with Destro and Aff (if not talented sacrifice), but is irrelevant for Demo (especially if either Felguard talent is taken).
Nonetheless, it’s hardly worth the summoning and maintenance effort.
I’d like to see it modified, not requiring party members to summon, interacting with command demon, and interacting with the two Felguard talents.
I’d even be satisfied (preferr?!) the ability be removed and a glyph added to make Demonic Tyrant a Doomguard…

I think Doomguards should be an option as a pet for demonology and have the felguard specific abilities changed if you have the Doomguard summoned.
Like Soul Strike could be that the Doomguard burns the soul of the target for x shadowflame damage and the Demonic Strength could be a shadowvolley ability where it channels shadowbolts to the adds within 8ish yards around your target.
I personally would love that. But you could keep felguard if you prefer to have that option. Or you can make felguard more of the tank pet while Doomguards are more for the dps pet. Demonic consumption would get more power if you have a felguard since it’s a tank pet if that helps balancing.

Nice ideas on the Felguard–>Doomguard talents. A design like this could easily be implemented; the iteration would not be much different than in perma-doomguard past, except for interaction with demonology talents.
I like the idea of Doomguard as an option instead of Felguard, with Cripple (stun/root) for the Command ability, Doom in lieu of Mortal Strike, and a Soul Strike and Shadowbolt Volley for the talents. The doomguard could have a slight edge in ST but be slightly weaker in AoE.
Felguard would be preferred in PvP (arena) still due to kiting/LOS issues, and for tanking solo content, but the Doomguard would be an option/flavor for BGs and PvE.
A fun concept, for sure.

I think that doomguard would be nice just as an overall pet for destro/aff. You would think by now after ALLLLLL these xpacs that locks would be able to permanently harness the doomguards power. Instead we are still stuck using minor demons like imps and a pup for our pet.
It wouldn’t be a tanking pet, thats ol blue. Wouldn’t be a m+ pet bc you need the interrupt.
I mean, demo has a succubus and it never gets used, why not make the succubus a speciality pet and make doomguard a second pet like hunters animal Companion talent.
Blizz could even make it a conduit, “in a raid setting doomguard becomes a permanent pet.” Can’t do quests in raid. Pvp you still want the interrupt.
I lovvveeee doomguard and wantt to see it used more. When it’s been used it feels substantial.
I think if it became a pet, making it a demonology specific pet would make sense with it being a bigger pet. Demonology warlocks spend time mastering summoning demons and bending them to their will. Lesser demons like the imp and voidwalkers would make sense for the Warlocks that perfect the art of hell-bringing (destruction) or curses (affliction). Like exotic pets for beast mastery hunters only.

Back when Doomguard was perma-pet for Destro/Aff it seemed sooo silly that when you saw a Doomguard it was an Aff or Destro lock’s and not a Demo lock’s pet.
I could be okay with the pet as an option for all three specs, if Demo’s version was superior.
Any way; I think we all agree the current iteration is a “bit” underwhelming in terms of fun and practical use.

I’d love to see Doomguard come back as a relevant demon. I think it would be cool as a primary pet on the same level as Felguard, with a Kick and a Purge instead similar to the Felhunter and allow it to interact with Felguard talents. Doomguard was basically just a felhunter replacement in WoD. I’d be fine with it as a glyph for Tyrant too. I actually wrote about that in a suggestion post during BfA beta but we all know how BfA beta went.

I need to clarify, I think.
For destro/aff doomguard would really just be used in a raid setting. Locks should feel empowered by their pet in a difficult setting. An imp is NOT empowering lol.
For demo like bm, it would be your second permanent pet with additional powers.

god I miss doomguard at the very least make it a glyph for doomguard to replace tyrant.

Oh! You’d have felguard and demonguard together as demonology? That would be pretty cool and would definitely add good dps to make it more competitive with two permanent pets. It would fit into a master of the demons lore as well. It would maybe even add a competitive option in the last row of talents as long as the one it replaced there becomes a permanent passive / ability for demonology Warlocks.
I get what you mean by the imp leaving other spec warlocks not empowering. But also, they really shine through themselves, not as much their pets. The pets are more like demonic henchmen for affliction and destruction while with demonology it’s more of a flex of power where you should feel empowered by your pets. But maybe that’s just me.

I honestly think that Doomguard would be just fine for non-demonology in its current form if (1) it could proc / benefit from the synergy legendary and (2) if enslave demon was permanent until pet / warlock die OR at minimum lasted 10-15 minutes (maybe even throw that in as a talent somewhere. OR just make it so you can refresh enslave without it dropping.
The pet adds some damage but requires you to pay a bit of attention, the damage added is not worth the effort of re-enslaving every 5 minutes knowing that being a few seconds off lets it potentially kill an ally.

Honestly for demonology I wish both of the felguard talents changed depending on what demon you had out. It would bring different playstyles to the warlock and allow for some difference between warlocks.
Like if demonic strength with an imp out could empower all your current HoG imps for a short period, kinda thing. For being a master of demon’s we sure are hardlocked on only using the main one.
