I am a glutton for punishment I guess… But I really enjoy playing Arcane more than the other specs, not sure why, but it just feels better to me while the other two seem a little clunky…
Anyway, my question for the venerable Mage’s currently in existence is this: What would be the best race to play for a mage on the Horde faction? I like the breathing underwater capability of the Forsaken, but I’m not sure if that is the way to go. As far as what would be the best traits for this particular class spec (Arcane), what do you believe would be the best Horde race?
Troll is the best I believe, the haste racial is very good. I think orc is also pretty good with the spell power racial.
At the end of the day tho, unless you are pushing world first or MDI levels of keys racials aren’t going to be a big factor. Play what you like. I’m undead on my mage because their casting animations are just chefs kiss and I mythic raid on him, no ones ever said anything about him being undead. It’s just such a small part of your overall character strength, for 99.9% of the playerbase your race won’t make a difference on whether you down raid boss or time a key.
In perfect sims, the difference between the worst and the best Horde race is like just ~200. In other words you’re free to play whatever you want and go for other stuff like professions, transmog, etc.
Troll does sim the best, btw. Vulpera is the worst. But if you go Alliance any race out-sims Troll. So it would be worth mentioning that for min/max Alliance > Horde for Arcane mages.
Toegrinder’s sims have the racial sims up, btw for all specs on 1, 3, and 5 targets.
Yep, this exactly. The only time that racials really matter for dps is like world first pushing and the highest brackets of PvP. I doubt that you do either, as it’s such a small minority of the playerbase.(no offense, I’m not in those groups either) I’d just pick a race for aesthetics. Simple as that.
How long do you plan on staying underwater? Don’t forget you can also eat the dead to get health back. Kind of a plus if you don’t want to make food. Nightbourne have a good look and lore for arcane mages, ditto for blood elves.
Normally, I’m not a fan of “play what you like, you’re not world first”. However, when it comes to racials it actually IS good advise.
As another post mentioned, the difference between the best and worst racial is negligible in terms of DPS. So small, it’s not worth choosing a race just for higher dps.
I recommend instead choosing your race primarily on its aesthetic. After all, you’re going to spend a lot of time staring at your avatar. Might as well pick one that looks good. And perhaps on whether the racials seem fun to you.
I can’t tell if you’re trolling, but if you’re not, underwater breathing is completely useless as a racial. You’re much better off with troll or blood elf for PvE or orc for PvP.
