I'm trying to come up with a Highborne character that has a legitimate background. I had an idea but I can't seem to find the appropriate answer. I know the Moon Guard Stronghold in Suramar was crippled in the Suramar questline, but would it have made any sense for surviving members to split off and rejoin the Kaldorei people and the Alliance after the Nightborne laid waste to it?
There were only three survivors from that stronghold, Thalrenus Rivertree, Syrana Starweaver, and Lothrius Mooncaller. Your character would've had to have left prior to the nightborne's attack, or have been stationed somewhere else when it happened, if you wish to remain lore-compliant.

The other point of origin would be Eldre' Thelas, also known as Dire Maul. The residence of Highborne in Darnassus is said to have occured with Adventurers liberating the city remnant from it's resident life-sucking tyrant.
There are also named ruins near by which might have been other Highborne settlements which might have come under reprisal from the Kal'dorei following the overthrow of Azshara. Survivors of those reprisals would have retreated to Dire Maul before the ogres moved in.
