I made a video 3 years back on how to change the gun sounds, yet 8.2 changed some things screwing up that process and making that video irrelevant. An addon author named Curse369 on curseforgedotcom has fixed that!

Do you want your gun to sound like a gun? Here’s how: Go to
www.curseforge[dot]com/wow/addons/oldgunsounds/
(replace the “DOT” with a “.”) and then install the addon manually or via the Twitch app (click the symbol). Or look up “oldgunsounds” right in the Twitch app. If you’re like me, you dig the new bow sounds and hate the gun sounds–but this addon changes both. To always have your preference, you can disable the addon by typing “/ogs” ingame when you are using a bow, or vice versa. It’s so easy!
Playing classic reminded me of better days when the guns sounded like guns. Install the addon, and let’s fill the air with powder.
I’m actually annoyed by the sounds with a bow most of the time. Bursting Shot and Concussive Shot both always sounds more like distant gunshot even with a bow which is super annoying.
Look here you cuddly little pajama elf, automatic crossbows are the F U T U R E! Twice the power and torque of a bow, easier ammo to carry around, and oh-so-stylish. A wildhammer special. No noise when firing means you don’t scare away prey either when hunting!
Why should I or anyone else care what weapon some named NPCs use? Don’t you value yourself more than some lauded celebrity or is this just a weird elf thing chasing Stars - with a capital s - and emulating them?
