You don’t know what you are asking for nor requesting for. If this game was made free to play they will milk the shop and finding other ways to pay for the game by passing the cost to its consumers. Look at those free to play mmo their shops are worse with cool weapons or armor set or whatever and making everything else in-game not so much and content wise would be worse off and slowed down production. You really don’t know what you’re truly asking for.
its not that they would add a sub part for players to get free dlc priority in a que and some other bonus stuff
I mean if someone asks for WoW to go FTP, I’m pretty sure they understand what they are asking for lol.
There’s enough toxicity in the game without bringing in the scrubs that FTP games attract. Not all bad of course but the bad element knows that it costs them nothing to reroll another account.
“There’s no such thing as a free lunch” - Crane’s law
Huge doubt considering all the implications that follow, unless you mean they know they are calling for a massive ptw/paywall cash shop.
last thing we want is p2w whales ruining wow
You don’t even need to look at other MMOs. Just look at what Blizzard did to Overwatch when that game went F2P.
16 times the monetization.
True, last thing we need is people buying some sort of currency and then using that currency to get boosted through content for achievements, gear, and mounts .
That sounds awful.
It’s sad, but it’s basically what’s happening to League of Legends right now.
They basically got rid of all the free skins/loot boxes and stuff, because people stopped buying the skins from the store.
So, they’re doubling down on paid cosmetics and ‘gatcha’-type gambling stuff.
The community over there is a dumpster fire.
Well, moreso than usual lol.
I haven’t played league in forever but that sounds rough. The game already didn’t have very good monetization in my opinion.
At least I have Space Marine 2 and Deep Rock Galactic for my multiplayer offerings that aren’t run by the accounting departments.
Man, I love this game so much. Did the Lunar New Year’s stuff earlier this week.
Can’t wait for Rogue Core!
I could see some kind of limited free to play aspect working well.
For example, what if doing group content (delves, raid, dungeons, instanced pvp) were behind the paywall but much of the open world stuff was free for all. They could exclude the latest content.
But If they could find a balance it could keep activity up. Or, perhaps they could instead have a very very cheap tier basically just to keep the credit card active
We do buy the xpac. So if someone wants to buy that, it would make sense for them to have something to play from it without a subscription. But I am under no impression that this would be a simple thing to get right.
This could’ve gone in the other thread instead of making a new one.
I support this thread. It’s a solid showcase of critical thinking. Carry on!
To an extent WoWs subscription model does keep a lot of people out. Many would be unsavoury.
I’ve come from a Free-to-Play game and while I’m grateful for the decade long enjoyment it’s given me, I agree that it would essentially make the game and the forums probably 10x worse.
free enough to play cause i pay with gold
Yeah asking for Free To Play would only worsen the Microtransactions.
I think something very cheap has a place though. If it’s $2 a month that isn’t much profit but it’s also a really cheap expense. A really basic sub could be useful for both blizzard and players. blizzard can keep track of people better while people who play very casually wouldn’t feel as pressed to cancel a sub if they aren’t playing. I have a few friends that step into a dungeon or raid maybe once a year, and maybe have 3 days played time in a year, and they’d probably be subbed now if there were a super cheap option.
It would also be a nice value-add for buying the xpac (premium edition includes 1 year of basic game time type thing)
Im still okay with it. If you have enough time already to grind gold its already f2p. Then throw in the token for p2w. Shop still exists. They might as well go all in.
