Make the Idols More Compelling

The idols are the worst part of our tree because not a one of them is worth taking and they are occupying valuable space in our capstone talent tier.

Some improvements for the idols might be:

Idol of C’thun
Guaranteed proc with ICD

Idol of Nzoth
Switch to spell power scaling
Shadow Word: Death now detonates all echoing void stacks immediately.

Idol of Yogg Saron
No longer procs off of apparitions
Now procs off of 3 consecutive DP casts. Each dp adds a stacking buff that lasts for 2-3 seconds. Once the third stack is reached, thing from beyond is summoned. Make it essentially require a mind devourer proc + full insanity to summon.

Idol of Ysharaaj
Now a choice against shadowflame prism instead of mindbender.

I feel that changes like this make the idols into more than just a passive damage increase with an old god outfit.

I agree here. The idols are pretty lame. They need to be redesigned.

I like the nzoth 1 the most. It’s different in its design and looks visually awesome. Using attack power for scaling is very odd though.

Mind devourer- like bruh, cmon a SL conduit as a capstone? If DP stays gutted and does noodle damage like it did in SL, this is gonna feel even worse.

Cthun- like I mentioned previously completely useless for pvp. Rarely cast mindflay or mind sear in pvp. Duration way too long

Yogg- another pet gimmick. This is just lazy design.

Suggested alternatives from npc abilities, so no need to create new art or anything. Easy implementation.

Dark Withering: “Withers the target, inflicting 524 Shadow damage and increasing damage taken by 10% for 5 sec.”
-Probably increase the duration. This can bring group utility to shadow.

Corrupting Void: “Corrupts nearby enemies with void energy, inflicting 3 Shadow damage every 1 sec for 8 sec. Additionally, all enemies are pulled towards the afflicted target. Upon expiration, the target explodes, inflicting 10 Shadow damage to all nearby enemies.“ useful for spriest in pvp to create distance from melee, by putting this on ranged enemy healer for example.

There’s a lot of abilities in Seat of the Triumvirate, that blizz should look at implementing and tweaking so they’re effective in pve & pvp

I agree with all of those except the requirement to proc Yogg. 2-3 second is way to short of a time and banking 100 insanity is kinda yuck.

Honestly, I’m surprised Y’shaarj wasn’t a choice node with SFP from the beginning.

Fully agree Idols are underwhelming and undertuned (bugged?). However, I would like say that my biggest issue with them is lack of interaction.

Idol of N’zoth is the closest to functional and is visually striking in an appealing manner. It’s currently weak (maybe due to scaling improperly on attack power). The other idols, in my humble opinion, could all use a full rework and buff.

My primary complaint with the Idols is that they don’t offer any interaction that changes your gameplay or affects your build. They seem to be select 'em and forget 'em talents.

One question I’m asking myself and others of this forum: If Idols, serving as capstones, bring a visual flavor appropriate to Shadow and bring powerful throughput (let’s assume Blizzard tunes them up/fixes bugs), is that enough?

  • I’m personally leaning towards saying I don’t think that is enough: I want the choice of an Idol to mean that my playstyle shifts in some (even minor) way because I chose that specific Idol.

  • I keep bringing up the Sepulcher shadow priest tier bonuses as an example of what I am talking about - they brought something visually striking/appealing/appropriate to Shadow, yes. And they were powerful, yes. BUT they ALSO brought a proc that we had to react to - a small change to our playstyle. Perfectly done (imo) - I find myself wishing Blizzard might consider either adding the tier or using the same principle to rework some Idols.

I agree that the lack of decisions is the main problem with the idols. Check out the repathed tree I made to see if that’s the kind of impact you were thinking of.
