I’ve been watching this silly argument about how Healers need to be doing damage in Mythic+. Most healing classes do damage as a part of their healing kit so it’s kind of a stupid hill to die on either way.
I’m not here to argue about that.
What I do want to say is that if Blizzard wants it’s healers to do damage as a part of their role’s responsiblity, it shouldn’t be the design they currently have set up where healers are so terribly bad at dealing damage that they have to switch specs in order to level up.
If you are going to force us to engage in the DPS metrics rat race that the Damage role classes engage in, then just rip off the bandaid and make us compatible with all of the other classes in their ability to deal damage.
If that’s too much trouble or will hurt too many feefees, get rid of the damage component all together. There should be ZERO expectation that Healers need to be contributing DPS to a fight.
There’s a reason why I play a healer, and it’s not to do damage. If I wanted to do damage during a fight I’d roll a DPS class. I don’t know why this is such a hard concept for the design team to understand.
Aren’t healahs at a point that they can rivals proper DPS specs with their damage dealin’? They can put out some propah punishments.
Maybes it’s my FF14 experience but I like that healahs can support with damage in additions to healin’ damage. If ya playin’ White Mage AKA Glare Mage ya best be throwin’ rocks at things while folks ain’t dyin’. I really enjoyed playin’ a healah in that game 'cause of that.
Y’know, it’s somethings to do while everyone’s at full HP and there’s still bad folks standin’.
Nothing has changed in wow in terms of healing dps. Good healers have always helped with dps, even in vanilla. Even if it’s just wanding, a good healer is always helping regardless.
I mean yes, if it’s going to be a requirement, at least give healers the satisfaction of playing the DPS game. Go full throttle or nothing at all.
Again, I didn’t roll a healer to participate in the DPS meter rat race, but if you are going to force it onto me, you might as well make it worth my effort.
I was chasing smite spec since classic. It wotlk you could make a completely viable smite spec before cata ruined everything (once again)
Judgements has always been a paladin responsibility
Power infusion has always been a priest thing
Druids have always been balanced around cat weaving
Shamans always brought herolust
Damage dealing has always been at the design of healers. Some did it more actively, while others did it more supportive. Standing around doing literally nothing waiting for someone to take chip damage is selfish.
Instead of crying about not being able to do nothing you should advocate for a more nuanced approach to healing damage. Maybe you would feel less bad about a healer doing its job if you were a bard that sang support songs while the dps did more dps.
If you are going to force us to engage in the DPS metrics rat race…
Noone’s FORCING anyone to do anything. If you want to do mythic raid and higher end m+, then yeah you need to do damage. If you don’t do those things, then it doesn’t apply to you anyway.
Dude, I dont want to “do nothing”. I want to heal. I want to heal full time, no stop, petal to the metal. If I’m not healing it’s because DPS haven’t pulled. I dont want a game designed to have periods where I’m not healing, because they want me to deal some damage inbetween those damage bursts.
I rolled a healer to HEAL. Give me healing only game mechanics.
OR
Give me the same level of DPS that the Damage role gets. I want either or not the pathetic level of damage healers have currently.
I’m not convinced that the encounters are designed with healers doing damage as part of the math. I think that it is the players who have put the burden on the healers.
That said, there is zero reason to be against helping with the dps, the poor boys in dps-land need every crutch that they can get. Help them old ladies across the street, healers, they are screaming to high heaven that it is not their fault.
Then make your own groups, bring under geared/skilled players.
Good players are going to make EVERYONES job as easy as possible. As a tank, if things are going too smoothly, I’m grabbing more and going ti push the limits a bit more.
You have the power to make the changes you want. Stop asking Blizzard to hold your hand.
