Make survival ranged

I miss That SV game play. Though having a melee spec option for hunter is worth it.

I think it would be better interest for the game to keep a melee spec for hunter, but look at giving some melee only classes a ranged spec. For me the easiest to get behind there would be a ranged rogue assassin type spec.

And make Beast Mastery melee!

I can see the outlaw rogue as a possible fit for range rogues.

Like an pirate with an rifle or even better as a cowboy rogue lol.

Sounds funny to me

This, to make BM an actual proper Rexxar spec, or make Survival more hybrid.

Tbh I have two visions on what I’d like Survival to be. The first, which is the most likely one we could possibly see at some point, is a hybrid melee/ranged. First you leap into melee, whack things with your whacking stick for a while, then leap out to range, at which point your moveset swaps to a ranged one where you utilize your funky hand crossbow and grenades and other throwables to attack at ranged for a while before jumping back into melee. Add some quality of life things like being able to switch to ranged mode without moving for fights where you need to stack, and I think that could be pretty fun.

Alternatively, and this one is just a ā€œwould be coolā€ thing that I doubt we’ll ever see, would basically be the Diablo 3 Demon Hunter. With the focus on traps and bombs Survival has, I could see Survival working as a mid to short ranged spec (not melee but not regular range) using more stuff like bolas and chakrams, maybe even turrets presuming Tinker doesn’t get implemented with them. Add 1h hand crossbows as a new weapon and let Survival dual wield em, and make it the most mobile spec of the three (MM least mobile as needs to stand still for aimed shot, BM would preferably be made melee alonside this)

I think all classes should have 4 specs, one being an unusual niche spec.

The whole point is that it’s an unfair reductionism, which is exactly what the Warrior was doing with the Hunter specs. The Hunter specs are a lot more than whether or not they use a ranged weapon and whether or not they use a pet.

Hunters in general didn’t get a lot of changes in SL. Even MM; the changes MM got in Shadowlands are more like those you would see in a major patch of earlier expansions. Way back in 3.1 Survival got an entirely new rotational ability in a patch, and they had way less resources back then.

I’m aware SV was practically untouched in SL, but that’s probably because before that Survival got remade from the ground up in 7.0 and then again in 8.0, and both times it clearly came at the cost of development in the other specs. It’s a complete waste of time on what will always be a mostly dead spec played by very few people.

I think the fact that over 90% of the class has been playing BM or MM since 7.0 gives me backing to say most Hunters don’t care about Survival and would rather see development put into the real Hunter specs. Sure, a ton of people on the forums like to support melee Survival, but that sure as hell isn’t translating to a lot of people playing it in game. Plus, most of them have little to no investment in the class to begin with.

The melee lovers didn’t leave us to enjoy ranged Survival when that still existed. Why should I care about preserving the spec now? We are so far beyond the point of ā€œlive and let liveā€ when it comes to Survival.

It really isn’t. It’s a complete waste of time to create and maintain a spec that occupies a third of the Hunter class for such a tiny niche of players who absolutely must play melee above all else. It would be better for the class and the game as a whole to have more exploration in ranged weapon archetypes. This game well and truly has enough melee specs.

In my list of 4th spec ideas I gave Warrior and DH ranged specs. Both based around reimplementing throwing weapons, except good this time and not just used to pull the next pack.

I can only imagine a plate wearer crossvow wielding warrion.

And a ranged dps holy pally

A one handed hammer wilding priest that applies curses like it did on classic

A no transformation melee druid.

A full summoner shaman that could have 2 elemetals to do dps

A melee cursing warlock

A spell reflecting battlemage

A ranged DH

get your dang dirty hands off my BM. the very first intro to the world for wow was a awesome for its day vid that had the dwarf hunter WITH A GUN AND A BEAR. BM is the only REAL hunter.

Your entire argument is ā€œI personally don’t like this spec, so I DEMAND that it be ripped away from those that doā€.

I’d wish you a good day as I exit the thread, but I really don’t want haters to have a good day. They certainly don’t want anyone else to.

Only one of us so far has had the spec we enjoyed ripped away from us so you have absolutely no standing to cry about people wanting to do just that to your spec.

In that i give you the reason. It was a crappy move from blizzard part.

I mean… define ā€œmainā€ lol… I have a 194 survival hunter, he’s fun as hell to play and smashes content… but I get bored far too quickly/easily to have a ā€œmainā€ lol

If they could dual-wield polearms/staffs I’d be into this…I especially like the new scythe mog from Ardenweald…it’s not quite The harvesting Wind Warlock artifact, but I still like the theme of it…I want one for each hand!

I wish survival could dual wield.

More options are always good

As a fan of older Demonology who lost it to DH, I disagree. Yet you still don’t and won’t ever see me asking for DH to be removed.

My list too. Though I think DH might need some soulflay and embers as well. The game would benefit if each class was given a new spec, as long as it did not duplicate an existing role for that class.

For them to keep missing this basic fact is horrible.

I main Survival and I’d cut off my left leg for ranged Survival back.
