I dunno if someone else has brought it up or not on the forums, but I figured making a comment about it would help people.
If you take a peek at your achievements, another aspect was added to Loremaster called Sojourner of X. In short, in order to have Loremaster completed for Shadowlands, you must complete all of the optional questlines in the zones. So make sure you take the time and go do those. If you skipped them while leveling, you can (of course) go back and complete them.
Doing all side quests while leveling will put you way ahead of the experience requirements though. My girlfriend and I are 59, and still in the entry chapters of Ardenwield. But this does kind of mean that “optional” side quests aren’t actually optional considering you need them for Loremaster, and Loremaster has historically been part of Pathfinder.
Edit:
Looks like flight might not be tied to Loremaster this time around, which is good for the people who wish to skip, but it might not be a bad idea to be thorough just in case.

Yeahhh I am about to be 55 before I am half done with bastion, and I skip a lot of mobs. Not thrilled with that part tbh.

I do think it’s a bit improperly tuned. At one point, it had been stated that without doing side quests, you wouldn’t be able to hit 60, and I ran into that issue myself while beta testing. Now? I doubt that would be the case, and a friend of mine who hates side quests hit 60 last night mostly off the main campaign alone. So I guess some last minute number tuning was done.
Regardless, I am having fun. But there’s just so many. It feels like Vol’dun all over again. “Hey! I found a quest! Oh. I found ten quests.”
I been doing Main questline and side quest all along. I try and read all the quest also.

I’ve decided to completely finish all quests and sides before moving on. I’ll over level but I hate rushing. Plus once the main story is done I can really explore and feel at ease in the zone. And this zones are stunning!!!

Well that’s a pain in the bum.
I’ve been skipping all the side quests to collect bear butts because I don’t need the xp (warmode 30%, I’m 54 after finishing bastion)
Warmode has been completely boring though. I’ve seen two players and they were both alliance.
Ion said recently that unlocking flying will be tied to your Renown level and completion of whatever campaign content comes in 9.1. Of course it can’t hurt to finish anyway just in case some new requirements pop up suddenly, but as it stands now it doesn’t appear as though Loremaster will be required this time.

You’re welcome!
Oh, how interesting. That’s good to know. I’ll quote this and add it to the OP so people don’t have misinformation. Thank you for clarifying.

I’m on level 55 DK and just completed the story in Bastion though some side quests still would be in the top part of the map as I just finished Pride or Unit.
1/4 the way in and feel I could hit 56 before Maldraxxus
What I’m trying to figure out is, to get the Shadowlands Loremaster achievement, do I have to do all of the Sojourner of X quests on one character, or can each Sojourner quest be done with different characters and all of them together can give me the achievement? Like I have a priest doing bastion quests, a warrior doing maldraxxus, etc.
Same here. I’m 58 (on another character) and just about to start Ardenweald. I have not done any side quests at all.
Yeah same experience I had. I am 59 and still not done with the third zone, so assume I will be 60 for all of the last one…
I feel like i did too many side quests. Half-way through Maldraxxus and I’m almost 57
Can confirm you get stuck doing side quests. If warmode is off anyways. I tried to do only main quests and got to around level 57 and the campaign stopped mid way into Ardenweld. Had to do some side quests to get to 58 then I had no problems after.
