New big patch means there’s a chance some of your add-on data could get mucked up. Be prepared!
Make copies of said folders, paste them to a different drive, and if something bad happens to your add-ons… well, you can copy-paste them back instead of panicking.
You can find your Retail folder location by going into the BNet Launcher, clicking Options, then Open In Explorer. The subfolders are nestled in there.
Another reminder; the patch will probably take the servers down for most of the day, so patience is key.
I delete my WTF, Interface and Cache folders 3 or 4 times a year. Haven’t done it this year yet. Today seems like a good time! I ain’t backing up nuffin!
Super easy and tons of players do it each and every day. It’s only hard if you’re not as good as you believe yourself to be.
Legit a learn to play issue.
Has nothing to do with an addon supposedly making you have better situational awareness, hand and eye coordination or generally overall faster reaction time. All of what you said above can be done by people without addons and most of the time faster.
Because, instead of installing an addon to skip the improvement process, some people actually train until they’ve improved themselves to the point that they’re better as a player in general instead of relying on a crutch. Kinda like real life when you keep working hard at something until you master it.
Unless you’re the best player in the world this jab seems unnecessary. Still kinda crappy even when it’s the best saying it, so it’s deff not a good fit when you say it as an average player.
Every day with zero issues.
Game is designed to be played with the basic ui so healing with it isn’t an issue unless you make it one.
I will agree with this and it’s the only exception I have when it comes to addons.
Because I believe that should’ve been baseline for a game like this where that information is useful for improving yourself as a player or finding out if the dps you were healing was simply bad and standing in stuff instead of it being poor healing performance that contributed to the deaths.
But most of the widely used ones are.
Legit my most favorite times in this game are always after a big patch and I’ll run with mid to higher range players and watch them get systematically destroyed all day long because their addon is broken and things that should come naturally to players of their caliber are just kinda forgotten.
Funniest thing I’ve ever had one of them say to me was “sorry I died to that frontal cone attack… my DBM isn’t working right”. Anytime I read something like that after a major patch it makes my eyes roll so far into the back of my head it tilts me backwards.
DBM or not when they’re at those levels the addon not functioning properly shouldn’t make them forget about simple 100% avoidable mechanics… unless they used it as a crutch for so long it’s jarring for them to go back to normal and actually think/anticipate the very telegraphed attacks without loud sound cues and warning lights and timers flashing everywhere.
I’m still 100% fine with addons like the ones mentioned above being used. I won’t however, kid myself into believing it’s not a crutch when their sole purpose is to alleviate most of the burden that is required to play at the highest levels.
I’d personally love to see a mythic raid world first race with no addons and pure trial and error. But I know this will never happen as DBM has become such a massive requirement for the vast majority of guilds and raiders that Blizzard has had to tune the difficulty up so much to make the fights last a little bit longer before they get DBM dialed in to trivialize some of the parts that make the encounter extremely hard.
Raids now last a few weeks tops compared to months in previous versions of the game.
Tell you the truth ,doesn’t matter backing the addons ,you’re still have to up date them if they game changed some the abilities .You’ll still may have to wait several days to adjust right.
You’re not backing up the add-ons themselves, but your profile you’ve saved onto them. This is especially important if you use something like elvui, where you can spend hours getting the settings just right. If something gets fubar’d, you can import your own settings back into them.
Some of us use Addons for Auction houses. If it bugs out, no big deal. I only use it to buyout all those worthless 1.post.items. Seriously, STACK people!
