Dear Blizzard here is what you do.
In the next retail expansion,
Do level squish to make LvL 120 —> LvL 60
There are people who want TBC, WotLK in the classic forum and some people who want Classic+. Listen to their ideas and implement them in the next WOW expansion. Make the next retail expansion feel like it’s classic+.
If you do this, you can retain the classic players and those who want the new and improved version of the classic will go play the classic+.
I think too many Retail payers are too heavily invested by now to have everything they have done taken away from them like that. The number of Retail players had been dwindling year after year after year.
No prizes for guessing it’s much more likely the hardcore who have stayed, and the casuals who have left. As time passes, the ones left behind are even more hard core.
It would go down like a brick.
Well, here is the thing. I am one of those retail players with 5 x LvL 120s and you know something? I don’t think I really care if they take away everything. It’s because the retail keeps resetting things so fast over and over again anyways. It felt like endless treadmill that had no meaning. Nothing is meaningful in retail. Well, maybe my WOD and Legion Pathfinder achievement but I consider them minor sacrifice. They even did Gear item level squish, so why not level squish? hmm? The players on retail are so used to getting resets anyways.
I’m not sure if Blizzard had intended for this rift to become to prevalent, but now what are they to do?
Say Classic continues to remain successful and their hope that the initial ‘interest’ doesn’t dwindle.
If the hardcore are going to remain in Retail, that leaves a portion of the base in limbo. Where would they go now that Classic is re-establishing the old/first identity of what WoW was vs Retail WoW.
I was originally a hold out not looking to get back into Classic as I played (and loved) Vanilla and was worried how it was going to be.
But, now that I am doing it, I haven’t even looked at so much as a content update for Retail.
I want to run the original Naxxramas 40man with my Level 120

I’ve been thinking though this might be an idea after all.
If some sort of buy in from both sides (not including the changes to Classic-over-my-dead-body brigade) can be achieved, this could mark a comeback of sorts for WOW.
But to ‘just do it’ would probably not go down well at all.
