Make pets follow HC rules too

Just an idea, but I think it’d be a cool one: have hunter and warlock pets die permanently like player characters.

A hunter would need to go and tame a new pet. A warlock can resummon their demon and it would change its name. So not permanent setbacks, but would add another facet to otherwise fairly safe HC classes.

I say the warlock has to redo the quest to subdue the demon he lost

That would be a much bigger setback for hunters than you’re giving it credit for.

The idea isn’t without merit though, especially regarding warlocks.

You are more than welcome to use that restriction if you wish, or better yet do a no pet run. I’m gonna pass on it though.
No thanks.

No thanks. Pets are a class resource/feature that directly affects their combat performance, not a player. If a pet dies in combat then its likely the hunter/warlock already has enough to worry about in that moment.

You’re a hunter, go for it.

Be the change you want to see.

demons don’t die, they just go back to where they are from. hunter pets should only get 1 life.

True, but maybe they lose the pact and start hating the warlock for letting them die lol

Out of this, the warlock would get out easier than the hunter since it’s just a resummon. Hunters would need to tame, then feed, then wait for loyalty, then level… but then again, a hunter pet is significantly better too

This seems dumb to me, it would cripple the pet classes way too much IMO

Both classes already must go through a series of quests to earn the opportunity to use pets/minions. For hunters, taming pets is not a guarantee unless they are taming something well below their level. For warlocks, demons are just summoned so, when your demon is defeated, it isn’t killed, it is just sent back to wherever it was summoned from.

But ultimately the idea is bad because,

So, based on your idea Nosao, once we dismount from a mount, we should have to go get another. That’s exactly the same thing as expecting hunters and warlocks to get new pets after they die.

Well the warlock wouldn’t be crippled at all since it’ll be a resummon like today, just a bit of flavor really

For hunters, yeah its a setback, but certainly not a class-crippling one. It would slow them down a bit and introduce a facet to having a pet that kind of makes sense in context of HC

I might try playing like this as others suggested and see if it’s a huge pain. My pet only died twice so far anyway since being careful with it

Look, you do you. House rules can make a game more interesting and enjoyable to people for sure. The issue is that there does not need to be anything in a hardcore mode other than if youndie for any reason whatsoever, you stay dead.

Changes to classes, gameplay et al outside of that very narrow and specific criteria are unnecessary because those changes are outside the acope of hardcore gameplay. Things like SSF or this pet idea might be fun, but they are self imposed limitations that should remain self imposed limitations, because theyre a different game mode from hardcore.

This was an Achievement on the old HC Addon. I want all the HC Addon Achievements to be implemented to Official Hardcore.

Terrible idea. Especially demons. They don’t “die”, they get sent back to the Nether. We’ve killed Tichondrius like 40 times now, for example. You’re just re-summoning your demon from wherever they get banished to when they lose their corporeal form in our world.

I get that hunter pets being rezzable might jive with your immersion on HC. But maybe you can just consider it differently - your pet doesn’t “die” they just become incapacitated and your revival is just waking them back up!

Nah. Not a cool idea, and I have played neither classes in hardcore.

“Dead is dead”, “go agane”. But my pet/demon dying?? That doesn’t count!

Make up your minds. Is this hardcore or not?

I’m all for it OP.

How is that even fair? A hunter has to go out into danger to get another pet, but a lock can just repress a button?

Hmm not so. I actually tried as a part of an IronMan Challenge. It was amazingly tough and took long to re-level, re-train and whatnot a new pet. I was killed by this more than once - at low level, where the difference was even not that big. I cannot imagine how a Hunter in the 40es or 50es would be able to survive, except for going to a lover level zone - which again would not work, as the pet only gets XP when you do.

Okay, you do your poison quest again every time it expires on your weapon scaled to level, or train lockpick up again from start every time you open a lock.

While we are at it lets make it where you can’t repair your gear, when it runs out of condition it self deletes and you have to get a new piece of gear. /s
