There was one time way earlier in the season on pre nerf rlp we wiped on the last boss and bricked key because the troll was the last one alive and all the dps and healer were dead I literally couldnt spare a single gcd to brez the healer because I needed all my holy power to stay alive until i died
that makes no sense, mana is a resource with practically no value to ret or prot, it regens almost instantly.
Then suggest an alternative that isn’t the tank dying just to use brez…

Solid point but think the gripe (and this extends to a lot of the “issues” with holy paladin healing as well btw) is that we have to use a generated resource to do these things rather than a diminishing resource that replenishes itself over time like say rogue’s energy. It means you need to pre plan every expenditure you make which just doesn’t work very well with a brez on a tank class.
I am aware that this applies to all brez classes. They also have to gen. Bears have pretty much the exact same problem when they have to choose to brez or not.
Edit: It then becomes a cost effectiveness issue. Example: I think you’d have 0 complaints if the cost was one holy power instead of 3. But it effectively takes 3 different casts (two if in wings) to generate the holy power for a resource in which time typically a lot can happen.

Every battle rez costs resources, including DK tank battle rez which has existed some time. Unlike all other tanks with rezzes, paladins can bubble first. Alternatively, have someone else in your party with a battle rez (you can get a castable battle rez on every class with engineering bracers now), have your team do mechanics right, beat the encounter without that individual, or wipe and try again. There are so many options.
Pally bubble IS one of our cds we use in the rotation of cds, not just a utility spell we only use in emergencies. Sure, IF it’s available, but the point is, that is a big IF, especially if we’re having to rez the healer where things have clearly gone sideways.
If we have brez, but we need an engineer to do it for us, they never should have given us the talent to begin with.
The COST for pally to use brez is higher than any of the other tanks and that’s not debatable. Your indifference to that is noted, and personally dismissed. I still agree with the poster that somehow this should be brought more in line with the cost to other classes.
They should make it cost less like 1hp, guardian druid and blood dk has much easy time to generate resources, 1 brez cost doesnt effect their tanking, they also have some filter gcds to cast brez. Prot paladins, on the other hands, are gcd capped and struggling to maintain SoR without wings, the moment you spend 3 HPs to brez you someone, you get trucked.

I discussed this with my brother as well since he just leveled up a protection paladin.
“What’s that button do?”
“That’s your battle rez. You probably will never use it as protection.”
“Why?”
“It costs three holy power which you won’t have to spare during combat.”
