Is there a way to make my changes permanent; so the look stays even when equipping new gear?
Transmog is sadly tied to the item itself (and secondarily, upon choice, to the spec) rather than being tied to the slot.
Nope. Have to change the transmog every time the piece of gear changes
The best you can do is save it as an outfit so it’ll default your transmog to that when you open the mog window

Not possible unfortunately. Luckily transmogers are easily accessible. I’d invest in the Yak mount if you dont have it already. And engineers can make 1-time use moggers. Look on the AH for those.
