Make Moonkin Form an Option

I would love it if Moonkin Form was made into an optional cooldown ability like Incarnation: Tree of Life Form for Restoration Druids. This is how I’d do it. (Permanent Moonkin Form(Shapeshift) would still exist.)

  • Make the Moonkin Form passive benefits i.e, increased armor and Owlkin Frenzy’s instant Starfires baseline to the Balance spec (meaning these wouldn’t require a form). Could rename Owlkin Frenzy to “Celestial Frenzy” or something. I’ll get to Polymorph immunity below.
    Then
  • Change the current Incarnation: Chosen of Elune to not only just replace Celestial Alignment, but now it also “replaces” the permanent Moonkin Form(Shapeshift) as well. So, taking Incarnation: Chosen of Elune would make the form work pretty much essentially like Incarnation: Tree of Life on Resto Druid— turning Moonkin Form into a true cooldown ability/cooldown form.

Then, they could equalize and tune the damage of both Moonkin Form(Shapeshift) being a 10% buff to spell power permanently while in form, with the more bursty 3-minute CD of Incarnation: Chosen of Elune’s now temporary form. All of this would mean if you preferred to keep the permanent Moonkin Form(Shapeshift) you would want to stick with Celestial Alignment and could also take Convoke the Spirits over the Incarnation side of the choice node.

As far as Polymorph Immunity, in PvP if you deem this immunity massively invaluable, then you would want to keep the permanent Moonkin Form(Shapeshift). Otherwise, this new Incarnation: Chosen of Elune would still be viable if you weren’t at risk of being massively disturbed by Polymorph effects.

If this is absolutely not possible— could Druid Glyph of Stars please finally be changed to remove the transparency effect and also remove the blue coloration? I really want to finally be able to watch my character model cast Balance spells without anything obscuring my gear.

Why do people continue to choose the class designed to shapeshift into forms and then continue to whine about having to use those forms…

I think it’s because the development of new forms is far slower than the development of new appearances, so 80% of the time, you’re not seeing your transmog. Even if they continue to add more moonkin customization, I think they also need to start providing new base models as well. Some days, I don’t like being a fat bear chicken.

Because if you’ve ever played Warcraft 3, the spellcasting Druid units in that game did not require being forced into a Moonkin/Owlkin Form to cast their spells. As far as lore reasons go, I’d like to be a spellcasting nature magic wielding Druid that doesn’t require being a big owl chicken or a transparent blueberry to perform well mechanically in the game. But if I wanted to, I could always change my talent back to permanent Moonkin Form. There would be choice.

I don’t want to see permanent Moonkin Form removed from Balance Druid for the players that have loved it forever, that’s not my point. My point is that Blizzard should let us have more choice. They implemented Glyph of Stars and Glyph of Shadow into the game, so Blizzard knows the players want to play Balance (magic caster) in humanoid form similar to Restoration Druid. You hear hardly anyone ever complaining that they want Resto Druid to return back to the days of permanent Tree Form, because humanoid/caster form works just fine and people like seeing their gear. And no, being a nature/celestial based caster with healing utility is not the same as “then just go play a Mage”, that’s a cop-out to providing choice to the player. Especially on a class with so much versatility and choice as it is.

(I wanted to add in here that playing the other 2 animal-based specs on Druid, Feral and Guardian, are not the same situation as Balance Druid. Balance Druids are spellcasters. Balance does not fight with tooth and claw, they use spellcraft, and humanoids like Elves can do just fine casting spells without a form all on their own.

As an aside, Feral and Guardian have already been given many cosmetic options to change their appearances in game which is wonderful. I’d love to see more for them of course like Claws of Shirvallah returning as a cosmetic option, or even allowing Worgen Feral Druids to fight in their Worgen form!!!)

It’s kind of a similar thing with how Blizzard gave many specs the option to play without a pet, i.e. Lone Wolf on Hunter, Lonely Winter on Frost Mage, Grimoire of Sacrifice on Warlock. People enjoy being able to play how they want and having real choices.

Anyway,
I was thinking more about my main post above and thought instead of Incarnation: Chosen of Elune being on a choice node with Convoke the Spirits: Make it so Incarnation: Chosen of Elune was on a choice node with Celestial Alignment higher up in the tree. This way, a Balance player could choose permanent Moonkin Form (Celestial Alignment) or temporary Moonkin Form (Incarnation: Chosen of Elune) earlier in the tree. Then, Convoke the Spirits would be in the same spot on the tree lower down. Could add a new spell into a choice node with Convoke or leave it as a single point node.

Been playing my druid since Vanilla, I understand the forms are part of the class. But after so long, sometimes I just want to see my drip as I’m tearing through mobs.

I just want Yellow Astral Form back, that we used to have as a talent.
