Here’s how I do it:
My target is at 1.5% HP and I’m at like 5% HP, I need to kill it and not die so I cast Mirror Image and Ice block.
Literally, the only way I can come up with this talent being viable is with a supremely low health target who won’t smoke my images getting killed while I’m in Ice Block.
Other talents on the row look at secondary traits, other talents, Azerite Traits, Essences, but nope, not Mirror Image. I’m certain this is simply a “near death then Ice Block to finish” talent.

It should be baseline. It’s VERY magey, and fulfills class fantasy. Either buff the hell out of it to be competitive in the row or make it baseline. It’s a pretty classic mage spell and is way too ignored (for good reason) by far too many players.

Wish it were better or baseline too. As frost in PvP you can send them to stay on the flag carrier to keep them slowed.
Still not great, and they can get killed by other players easily
I actually like mirror images in random BGs as a frost mage. Even then, I’m still split 50/50 between it and IF.
As a frost mage, controlling the battle is my first priority, and the images provide more slows.
I also think there is a small benefit to creating more distractions on the battlefield. If a melee takes 1 more second to figure out who/where you are, that’s 1 less global hitting you.
The fact that they last 40 seconds is nice. They can outlast pally immunities and priest fears.
The damage is negligible, but it’s not bad in a 1v1 scenario.
I wouldn’t take them in arenas, though.
The situation that OP mentioned is useful and has saved me many times-- about to die, Ice Block, and my Mirror Images finish off my opponent.
In bgs as fire, use Mirror Image while you spam cast Greater Pyro for extra damage. It can be great burst on that FC or healer.

I hate that mirror images has been the worst talent on it’s row for nearly all situations ever since it became a talent… at least make it better than the passive talent (though ideally just make it a base ability again please)!

i use MI anyway. i dont care at this point if its useless or not as effective. i dont want to bother having to track the one, and hate staying put for the other. wanna fire and forget for the most part while moving.
