Make Melee Hunters Great Again!

Hi SoD Dev team!

In short:

  • Make dual wield melee hunter great again!
  • Change melee runes (like Raptor Fury) back to Phase 3. Rotation was simple and easy.
  • Combo this with pet runes back to where they were (Lone Wolf has been fun, but I do miss my pet fighting next to me)
  • Rune swop for AOE or Single Target fights. (Possible change some runes to diff slots to make this happen.)

First, I’m 38, been playing a wow Hunter since the beginning of the game and want to say SoD has been the most fun I’ve had in the game since the original back in the day. So great work keep it up!

That being said I would love for you to make Melee Hunter great again!

Simply put, I think some buffs to the melee runes and or pet runes to make specifically dual wield play styles more like how it was in phase 3. The rotation was very enjoyable and simple! I think if you changed the raptor rune back to what it was with a DMG buff plus make sure the rotation and procs are back to phase 3. Then we could switch a couple runs to go from AOE fights to Single Target fights. That’s what I want to see a simple rune swop depending on the fight.

P.S. please don’t nurf AoE trap DMG it’s actually fun. Just make us want to rune swop it with single target fights. :slight_smile: leave ranged hunter where it’s at it’s kicking but. Just get melee back up there.

P.S.S. I like how you want there to be a couple of styles of melee hunter (weaving 2h & dual wield) I’m a dual wield guy myself because I don’t want to run in and out of the fight trying not to clip with my globals.

That is an understatement.

  1. That is only fun for you in PvP.
  2. Survival Hunter is the top of the chart for damage to bosses for all of the Heat Levels of Molten Core. I am not sure what your ask is here.

I think your talking about the ranged survival build :slight_smile:

Look at their rune selection. At this point for hunter the rune selection determines the play style you’re going for. (Ranged, 2h melee, dual wield melee)

Im primarily speaking to the PVE here. The AoE is really fun in dungeons and some MC fights. So PVE stuff. Haven’t really dove into pvp that much in phase 4 yet. Just the AV this weekend. But I have heard that the ranged hunter in PVP is nuts from the traps.

Indeed, most of them are, but rank 139 (Heat 3) is a melee hunter.

Maybe you should see what he is doing to attain that? (I do not have the time nor the hunter Season of Discovery raiding experience to ascertain the usable information, at least not quickly. My hunter is largely for PvP.)

I’ll take a look at some of the top melee dudes. I think there is a rather large dps difference from ranged to melee. With some possible outliers (super gamers hehe)

If I had to guess he is doing the MAX Weaving 2H melee build. But I have no clue. I’ll look into man it’s a great point. Everything is so new and needs some time to settle in. :+1:

I’m ranking good personally on some fights as melee against other duel wield and 2h Hunter builds. I’m going for the over all drop in melee dps as a build vs ranged and the rotation being a bit funky now.

You mean they pad the meters on the stack fights. 2 button rogues are nearly identical in single target and ahead in some fights according to wcl.

Here’s an idea i posted on another thread:

We need Raptor Strike back on a 3 second CD for pure melee hunters. The 6 second CD leaves too many gaps in the rotation when you are waiting for the slot machine to refresh your Flanking Strike or activate Mongoose.

I like the suggestion of adding Kill Command back in if that became part of the rotation as well. It would actually pair nicely when the trinket that gives your pet an on demand crit. Beastial Wrath → Trinket → Kill Command to open a fight would be kinda awesome. After that Kill Command just slots in with Raptor/Flanking/Mongoose.

Has been 0 fun this phase playing melee hunter.

I want to see explosive trap taken away from trap launcher so melee hunters at least have something.
