I believe the younglings these days say it like…Hot take? Yeah. Hot Take.
The Timewalking is great and fun and all but…
Am I the only one who misses the fun of leveling an alt and actually putting in time to level? I started an Earthen Pally boy and I love him. His name is Pebbel. And he’s fun to play in the BofA leveling. But here is the thing. From level 16 to 17 took me 9 minutes.
9 flippin’ minutes. That’s sounds fast! And it is! Too fast in my opinion. I started 1st patch in Wrath and it took soooo long to get a level. Not in a bad way. It made me learn my character and appreciate every talent choice I made. I got to feel the different with a 2% dmg buff or a extra move choice that i made. Now. I literally have barely idea the changes my talent choices make. Any of them. And it succcks. I have a ton of alts that I don’t care to play because they took not even 10% of the time it used.
I loved MoP remix. It was fun. But it’s become the norm. I crank levels mindlessly just to get to end game and decide meh, I don’t want to play this class. I miss the investment. I miss the time it took to get to 58. Those last few levels grinding classic dungeons just to get to BC and murder the mobs in Outland. Etc…Yadda yadda. You get the point.
I love the new modes and timewalking is fun to choose your xpac to level through but Blizz, would it be cool to create a classic leveling mode that takes you through all the xpacs at a much slower pace and you get to go through all the lovely expansions(some are debatable, that’s fine) so when you finally hit 70 for TWW, that real excitement hits you with all your alts? Not just your main the first time?
Hot take, I know. But I think a “Story Mode” perhaps along these lines would be sick.

In my day we took two weeks to gain a level. And we liked it, especially when we died and lost a level, uphill, both ways!

the last toon i got to 70 has 48 hours /played on it. and the 70 before that has a /played of 1 hour and 15min from remix.
its because i make my own fun in a game that lets me do that. i like that both options are available and we aren’t forced to level slow bc some people want it. there are other versions that offer that experience and they’re pretty good.

Leveling still isn’t fast enough.

Aw come on… we had actual quest driven goals… hardcore farming to acquire the most meager of gear… we had to wait until level 40 to fly, and then the game got stupidly easier. We should have had just horses, and mages the only class to port us around. They are so impoverished now, a shadow of their former selves. So sad.

I can manually level a character to 70 in a matter of two-three days… that’s not fast enough? Granted my children have to make their own cheerios… but still, that’s pretty fast considering it used to take months.

Agreed, it’s way too fast and way too easy right now. Part of what makes classic so appealing is that leveling is an accomplishment, and the extra challenge compared to retail means if you don’t learn your class while leveling, you probably won’t level. You actually need to use your class’s kit, and sometimes even your professions.
Retail has lost that part of the game and instead it just pushes you to max level asap, which sounds good for new players, but actually makes them quit once they hit the endgame difficulty spike

I remember the month I spent in Duskwood. I’m not sure I’d want to go back to that.
But…
I don’t see why there can’t be a Chromie Time+. Give it a permanent Fortified buff, lower the amount of XP to slow it down and let people go ham.

I have never once, ever, enjoyed leveling.

My brother in Tunare.
I played EQ hardcore for about 14 years.
People falling asleep while in leveling groups was not uncommon.

It was a dark and terrible time before flight. You’re describing TBC where the long road to less painful leveling and more fun in the game started.
In all honesty and joking aside, wow was aimed at casual mmo gamers when it came out and casual mmo gamers have kept it profitable. Quest markers over an NPC head to let you know they had one, rested xp and easy gearing compared to every other game at the time was so huge it laid the foundation for wow to be a 20 year juggernaut.
Classic is always there if people want it.

Nope… I’m a player that much prefers to not have to spend a lot of time leveling…

People must suffer to appreciate what they have accomplished. Kids these days want everything handed to them on a silver plate, trust funds, loose morals, and no demands in their lives. Bah.

Leveling’s totally fine.
A slower leveling experience is available in Classic if that’s what you’re after.

not if they primarily enjoy pvp, like most every other pvper, old or new. they wanna get to max and pvp. i play with plenty of new players and they hate leveling. as other pvp games dont have the mmo aspect attached to them and you can just jump in and play. hell, most other mmos have a pvp mode where you can just jump right in at early levels with template gear, but wow doesnt.

To be fair, the FIRST toon was fun. Even with how long it took. Because everything was new.
After multiple characters, it was a slog and a half.
