As addons are/were essential part of Vanilla WoW, the community would agree that it will be great if we can run the old addons in Classic. Hopefully it will still be possible even though new technologies are used now.
Can’t wait to have some updates and clarity on this subject.
Thanks
It would be really cool to use the old addons and not just DBM
They confirmed they will allow most add-ons
However won’t allow add-ons that automate the game
That could mean Classic only, that could mean things compatible with 7.3.5. We just don’t know right now.
People will start working on updating and making more advanced versions of em as soon as the beta is out believe me…or whenever the API is available anyway.
Very much so nothing to worry about
The API has changed so much that very few, if any, Vanilla addons will work.
But a lot of them will probably be remade with the modern API or modern addons will be adapted to replace them.
going to have to use X-perl as the unit frames for the time being XD, hopefully an updated unit frame comes out for 1.12
We learned yesterday via beta client datamining that they’re using the upated 8.x client, and will likely keep the Classic client updated with the Retail client. So I assume that means most Retail Addons will work with Classic - perhaps needing some changes/updates at most.
0 the addons that haven’t been updated since Vanilla will work.
I don’t remember when but there was a major change to the API around the time that Wrath was happening that forced every addon to update or be broken until it did.
All I care about is a raid mod, unit frames, one bag, and timers. Maybe a swing/shot timer would be nice. Oh and a Druid bar!
Wow, I care about more addons than I thought. When my guild had me put in addons before my first MC raid, I never looked back lol.
a raid frame, scrolling combat text, and cartographer are main ones for me
This is really up to the developers of add ons & not Blizz. The developers are free to develop whatever they want (within Blizzards restrictions). I have a feeling there will be a lot of fan updates of older addons even if the main developers build from their newer add ons.
I need me an action bar, unit frame, threat meter, and one bag addon for sure. We’ll definitely have them. Depending on whether the addons as are in BFA will work or not (which might be the case given the datamined info), we will either have to wait a bit into a beta or a bit into launch before we get any.
That would make sense yeah, probably need to keep them up to date as retail changes things.
There is a 0% chance that old addons will work in Classic. Those addons were written with a 14 year old version of LUA, and blizzard has changed pretty much all of the inherent functions in their API. It’s just simply not going to happen.
I’m sure the old favorites will have new or comparable versions, even if they don’t have the same name
Yeah, i’m sure plenty of developers will be porting and updating older addons to work with the new API
One of my favorite addons for vanilla was Aux. I really hope it’s made available - made the act of AH posting various batches of items at different prices so easy.
You can remake any old addon you like, as long as it doesn’t violate the Secure Code architecture or uses Protected Frames.
i.e. You can’t remake Decursive 1.0 or Healbot 1.0, or the auto-buff capabilities of Pally Power.
