Make it make sense - WW Question

I know that the guides say Crit and Versatility are our go to secondary stats.

But 4000 Versatility is ~20% damage increase, where as 2000 mastery is a ~20% damage increase. Why wouldnt we prioritize crit mastery , with a touch of haste and/or vers?

And is there ways we can play around with the build? I remember in Legion SEF was better than serenity, have people tried stuff instead of just giving up?

Oh and yes i hate faeline like every1 else, but if there gonna keep it just make it a straight buff to me for the 20 seconds or so, kind of like feral snapshot, maybe make it give me a dam chi too!

Really though, any thoughts?

Versatility is a flat damage increase, whereas Mastery requires you to not mess it up during rotation, otherwise your dps drops (which is quite easily done). Assuming you are correct and they both give an identical damage increase, Versatility is going to be by far the more reliable stat.

Faeline is just a horrible ability in its current state in that it forces us to play in a very confined area. But we have been crying about this for a long time now and nothing has changed, so don’t expect anything any time soon.

So the reason for Versatility being more worthwhile than Mastery is that Versatility affects 100% (or nearly 100%) of a Windwalker’s damage, whereas Mastery affects 50-65% depending on your gear and content. For example, Mastery does’n’t affect Auto-Attacks, trinket or weapon procs, or Touch of Karma; but Versatility does.

There are people playing with SEF instead of Serenity, and they may be finding it works better for them. The guides have to be written in a way that works for most people, or under ideal circumstances. There’s not a ton of variability in what we can choose to play around with, and any tweaking tends to lead to minor gains/losses if anything at all.

Interesting, so because a lot of our damage comes outside of our main hit-combo abilities, it makes more sense to run versatility.

Is there a chance top players like yourself and others have tried to see if a high mastery build would make RSK BO FoF ScK hit hard enough to make it worth it?

Well your numbers are very off, if they were accurate you would be correct.

4000 Versatility is 16% damage,
4000 Mastery is 22.72% increase, and
2000 Mastery is 11.36% increase.

If 100% of our damage was affected by Mastery this would put Mastery solidly in the lead, but as Babylonius pointed out, Mastery can contribute to as low as 60% of your abilities.

If they buffed the Mastery Coefficient from 1.25 to 1.5, we would see a shift in priority.

When it comes to stats, there’s not as much experimentation necessary like there can be with talents since it’s just math. Especially with things like Raidbots, it takes very little time to test a high Mastery build and see how it compares.
