It will not hurt the game. If you’ve earned it once that should be enough. The system is alt or re-roll unfriendly.

If this was the case, I would have still been playing retail.

I have so many friends that should come back to wow if they did this.
Or at least give people the option to skip - kind of like some of the story line quests.
This way some people can still progress through essences if they want.
I think it’ll actually help the game a ton.
I lost so many people to other games because of this system being locked behind each character.

Not gonna lie i think the nexklace system needs to go. Id rather have necklace loot drop.
The upgrade sysem, essences, and levelling process are all lame…even if account bound.
Scrap the whole system.
There are 50 of these threads. Also…it won’t happen. Not because it shouldn’t but because the heart goes away in about a year likely, and no one will care about it again.
They should have done it more like the Crucible essence and it’s upgrades were tied to your Neck.
You get access to all level 1 essences and then as your neck hits level 60 and 65 you get levels 2 and 3. Then you’d only have one thing to grind out (if you choose to).
I just started playing my druid (my 3rd alt) and I’m already groaning having to do the Nazjatar dailies and level the followers again. With each alt it gets more painful to the point where I’m pretty sure my last 2 will remain unplayable.
Don’t worry if evident by Blizz’s followings of new expansion mechanics, the necklaces will be maxed out a few weeks before 9.0 and be scraped entirely by some BoE green.
I’ve earned my gear one one character, so i should have ilvl 440+ on all my characters. Oh, nevermind, that isn’t how character progression works.
It’s true. That system is killing alts. A good plan can be the essences reduce their cost in an exponential way.

He’s not talking about gear progression - he’s talking about essences.
Adding essences ON TOP of gear, weapon, consumable, etc. progression is the issue.
I really only want this because that’s stupid notification flag won’t go away if I don’t have that second/third essence. If I dont want to spend the time required to outfit that particular character at least don’t hound me to death with a flag that NEVER SHUTS UP.
Essences are the same as gear, they are character prog. The only difference is there is a guaranteed way to obtain certain essences, while with gear it’s random. I would be fine with some catch up mechanics being put in place, but to flat out make them account wide isn’t going to happen, nor should it.

Agreed. I had to completely abandon my other 3 tanks due to the essence system.
Ain’t nobody got time to farm essences on 4-5 characters. It’s too bad they’re virtually useless without them.

Personally I’d prefer they be account-wide, but I feel like that cost reduction is a fair compromise.
