I agree with you. I love to play alts, i used(past tense) to run m+ on multiple toons, my Main being a Windwalker Brewmaster … i know how to Tank, DPS and Heal all the Dungeons.
But this BS with the Essences killed all my enthusiasm. Some of the Essences require PvP … something i do not enjoy anymore.
And to top it off … you have to get two Reputations to Exalted … brrr:cold_face:
So stupid, they could not put a Trader in the Heart Chamber and reward some currency that you earn in a multitude of ways … and just let us buy the Essences we want.
But … of course that would not encourage(force) players to try out other ways to play the game!
I know. I love alts too. The worst part about all this is that the essences are actually a pretty neat system, and I like how they work. I just don’t want the absurd timegate/repgrind for them on every single toon I want to try out.
The Garrison in its implementation was a mistake to begin with though. it provided all the gather mats you needed. you could sit in that personal instance alone, and get almost everything done with out ever leaving. The world seemed empty because everyone was in their own little world and had no reason to come out, short of a random dungeon or raid.
but yes, too easy and the content dries up, but too hard (frustrating with time gating of limited rep gains) and it become almost impossible to manage more than a handful of alts. but perhaps that is a good thing as by the effect of not being able to spread your attention too thin you can more sanely focus on a few.
Spending 3 hours a day farming rep on an alt, that you’ve already done before. On top of the other things you’re already doing in game. No thanks. Grats on your rank 1 essences though, I guess?
If you want to spend less time per day, but more days, you also have the option of just doing the 3 Follower dailies + non-pet battle mechagon WQ and you will be done in 20 days.
+1 OP. I play all tanks, and rank 3 Null Barrier is our top damage and top healing/absorb essence for most situations, in the minor slot. I have no desire to farm exalted AGAIN on my 5 other 120 tanks, so they just sit and rot while I play other games instead of playing alts.
I should add that I’ve had raid ready alts in every expansion since BC. It’s never been this bad to have a quality alt. In 8.1 I had 6 toons over 410 ilvl and I just did a key or two each week, along with a heroic raid every once in a while. I’m not even trying to play an alt in 8.2 until they fix this mess.
Yeah, I think that’s the point many people are missing in this discussion. I’m talking about having a quality alt. Something I can bring to current, challenging content. Not some toon you have a passing interest in and do a +2 on every other week.
Are you also farming 445+ Trinkets on all of them too?
That’s your top damage/Healing/ect. in most situations.

Guess I better not play my alts since they don’t have perfect parity with my main.

What a load of bull. Essences are certainly not the first area of the game where less played alts are lagging behind more often played mains for players. It’s a form of progression. Get to it; if it’s something you want to have on all your characters.
That’s the point - we’re not going to “get to it”. We’re just going to log off and/or get bored and unsub. There’s too much you have to keep up with now to bother playing new characters.
On my alchemy alts I’ll get the 440 socketed trinket, yes. Also it doesn’t have to be perfect but you have to realize that many of the rank 3 essences are twice as good as their rank 2 counterparts. And even the rank 2’s require Revered rep, which is also a time gated pain to grind out.
Remember in Legion how they made the artifact weapons way more alt friendly as the expansion went on? Remember how that made people excited to play their alts? Yeah, they did a 180 for some reason here and the decision to make 8.2 have 0 alt friendliness is a terrible decision.
Then what the heck are you complaining about?
Don’t then. Everything is going to be alright. It’s all going to be okay.
“Give me the stuff I want or I quit” is a stupid, infantile, nonsensical demand to attempt to threaten the Dev Team into indulging you lot with.
“So, quit.” – Should rightfully be the Dev Team’s response. If you want things in the game, earn them. If you don’t want to earn them, then stop playing.
That would be fine if this was consistent to what they’ve done in the past, but it’s not. 7.2 made Legion 100x more alt friendly, then 7.3 made it even more alt friendly. Pretty much every expansion since Wrath has gotten more alt friendly as the expansion went on. Then suddenly in BFA they are going to make it harder on alts as we get closer to the end of an expansion? Why? What sense does that make?
Edit - I also think it’s hilarious you say “if you want something, earn it.” Right now in WoW it’s “if you want something, pull the slot machine lever 100 times and maybe you’ll get it but maybe you won’t but please keep trying and here is some welfare gear while you’re at it that invalidates 2 raid tiers.”
I’d like something like this as it would make the grind a lot easier, my healers need the rust bolt rep essence and I’m already dreading getting around to doing it. There’s a super grindy thing that I think comes from the paragon chest for rustbolt where for one spare crate a pop you can send 100 rep to an alt… but there’s no such thing for nazjatar reps
I did the math on what it would cost me to get one toon to revered with Rustbolt by buying the 100 rep tokens. I needed 37,500 spare parts. If I buy the springs and other stuff off the AH to turn in and get 120-150 parts per turn in it was going to cost me about 700k gold. I decided to log off and play a different game instead.
Lol yikes that’s a lot. I wasn’t intending on actually using them to fully grind out an alt, I’d much rather a rep increase token like mop had; I honestly really dislike mechagon to begin with
