Make Epics Epic Again

It should be rare to get an epic. If every time you run a mythic plus you get one then it’s not really epic, it’s just one of hundreds of items you discard. Getting epic should be so rare that when you get one, you rarely ever NOT put it on. Running around in blues should be a lot more common in the end game, until people do very high end content and get epics.

MEEA.

Rarity colors haven’t meant somthing in years and years. It’s all about ilvl now.

Well it’s just a color. The last time epics were rare was vanilla. Gear is just more widely accessible now, which is a good thing. Being blue doesn’t seem to change anything vs purples.

This feels like a really trivial issue.

Make America great again

And even then they weren’t super-rare between professions, the upgraded dungeon set, and BOEs.

Its a really minor thing to worry about, but I do agree. There’s little point in having a quality system if epic is the only relevant quality other than mandatory artifact/legendary pieces everyone has.

Its gotten worse over time. Especially with Legion and BfA.

Perhaps quality should be more closely tied to ilvl/difficulty at max level.

Quest Gear thru Normal Dungeons = Green
Heroic Dungeons thru Mythic+ 0-4/LFR = Blue
Normal/Heroic Raids & M+ 5-13 = Purple
Mythic Raids and M+ 14+ = Orange
Future things like the Cloak = Artifact

Other pieces of content should be easy enough to fit into those thresholds.

Cap emissary quests or their shadow lands equivalent 5 Ivl below normal raiding and call it Blue. That’s the only “change” I’d make.

While I appreciate your sentiment, this boat sailed in Wrath with the introduction of the loot piñata (that silly arena thing where every single drop was epic). I don’t think they could really dial it back at this point.

[takes a cookie] I also see this topic the same way. The boat sailed and would it even add anything? I don’t care what color is around my gear’s border as long as it’s a good piece. I don’t think it’d ever revert or change.

I like the plethora of epics because then my enchanter gets the epic gems to be able to do enchants and I don’t have to worry about having to maintain two characters. :woman_shrugging:

Also color really doesn’t have to matter anymore. Ilvl is fine for a metric of rarity or power.

I think if you wanted to reintroduce the idea of “high tier” loot again based on color, the solution would be to add a new rarity above Epic (and below Legendary), rather than adjusting how common epic / rare items are.

Just have someone create an addon that changes the text color of loot.

One thing I like about Shadowlands is legendaries being a crafted item you farm for again, and not just a random drop from Dorkus the level 102 seal.

Yea, end game content having a chance to give no reward at all sounds like a great idea.

Even then the epics were hardly very good. We saw this with Classic launch where classes were running around with BoE greens for casters and leather+a questing dagger as warriors.

Classic wow ----> that way

Not saying anything 1 way or the other, but Ion said to accomodate for no RNG gear upgrades, less loot is dropping.

looks like some guy played vanilla wow, and then came back to retail

Grumble’s cookies are still rarest of rare though.

I really don’t care, you can remove all the colors since I only hold shift and look at stats anyways.
