Make Demonology a tank spec?

Just throwing out an idea. posses your demon, when the demon dies you pop out. Would be an interesting mechanic.

I quite liked the idea of a mid-ranged tank in the form of Engineer on Wildlands, and think this could translate to Affliction or Demonology.

So I have mentioned this to friends before. Warlock tanking needs to become a reality. I remember tanking Leotheras the blind, the mage on KT fight, Illidan, KT Council fight in ICC, world bosses Legion and current. As well as random off tanking. A long time ago the while prog’ing Chimaeron we were hitting the enrage timer and our strat was to let me gen as much threat as I could, have healers try to keep the tanks, a hunter and myself up as long as possible. The tanks would die and I would be next on the treat table. I would be in the far corner of the room and allow the boss to come to me while dots ticked, when the boss got close I would “Soul Shatter” causing the boss to turn to the hunter who was in the opposite corner of the room. The hunter would feign when the boss got close redirecting it back to me. I would refresh dots and accept my demise. This ping pong back and forth was usually enough to squeeze out just enough dmg to finish off the boss. My idea of demo tanking goes as follows.

“The warlock performs a dark ritual of binding, sacrificing their corporeal existence sealing their soul into a Fel phylactery to summon into the world a pitlord. The warlock assumes control of the pitlord gaining immense power (kinda like old meta) and resilience. While under control of the warlock the demon will carry the phylactery safeguarding it. While carrying the phylactery any spells cast on the warlock’s soul will be redirected to the pitlord. This includes both beneficial and harmful effects. If the pitlord should fall in battle the phylactery will shatter allowing the warlock to return to their original physical form in a weakened state.”

Warlock tanking already happened with Demo, and for whatever reason, Blizz deleted it. It was a lot of fun, made you look badass, and was even useful in PvP.

Reforging also made the Dark Apotheosis era so beautiful, especially in pvp. Don’t know why fun gets cut every time a new expansion is released. It’s absurd.

Yes, please! One of the funnest specs to ever exist was Demo-tank in Pandaria

I could see a cloth tank being a novel idea but I doubt it would happen. I feel warlock getting a tank spec is less likely than them fixing demo. And that’s already unlikely enough.

I’d like to see affliction become a dps/healer spec and/or demonology become a tank spec.

Every class should have either a heal or tank spec.

Warlocks were already “tanking” certain mechanics back in TBC. They could’ve continued down that path.
Although to be fair, the class that truly deserved a tanking spec was Hunter, it’s all over the title: Survival.

I think it could be more than a novelty. If you think about it we have three squishy tanks already: Monk, DH and Druid. They all wear leather but the devs designed their specs around that disadvantage.

I doubt they’d convert it into a full fledged tank spec… BUT I believe para-tanking niche should be brought back. Below is me going crazy with a talent idea, since they wouldn’t bring Meta back as they deemed it a DH toy.

What if Dark Apotheosis made a return as a Talent… And instead of Metamorphosis, it would simply let you… merge with your demon for a brief time, obviously with an added special ability.

Cosmetically you would gain the demon’s features, like the Felguard’s armor (a custom-made plate that resembles his gear) or Succubus’ horns and wings, or simply fully tranforming into a Felstalker or Void aberration.

Merging with your Voidwalker would actually be the only one permanent, and while you wouldn’t be as effective as a regular tank, you would be able to save the day when a tank wipes, or actually tank overgeared content.
