Make darkmoon card crafting less degenerate

starting to hate this. sometimes lucky with a card type that sells well (volcano). but not usually. the only people that seem to profit off of darkmoon cards are 1. the bots, 2. the people playing the auction house, or 3. the extremely lucky (and in that order).

finally down to one card still needed to make my volcano deck. its 8k, still way overpriced, but what option do i have. i farm for a couple hours and list all of my stuff on the auction house. log in this morning with 9k to spend, and someone has bought out all of that card and relisted for 16k.

would love the option to spend double the mats to craft a particular flavor of card. or triple. maybe 4x or 5x to pick the exact card. so many ways to make this less degenerate and catered to those who take advantage of the system.

Why are you asking for changes when it works how it was intended

A wildcard system won’t be bad.
Too late to scream nochange any more after all.

i ask this every time I see someone ask for changes like this for classic, cata in particular

like dawg this is how the game was back then, you knew this going in

nothing about classic is the way it was originally, based even as simply as originally we didn’t know what was coming in the next tier, or just how good certain items would turn out to be, or for how long. completely aside from how easy content is with the addons and weakauras we have access to. another blaring example and very pertinent to this is how rampant gold farming bots are, and how accessible massive amounts of gold are thru the token. the excess of gold and the amount of players that can abuse a system like the auction house by cornering markets does not play well with the darkmoon card’s already rng based system.

i am 99.9999% sure that nothing will ever be done to change this in classic cata, but as you can see in future expansions they did adjust the rng of crafting many items by allowing ways to specify which stats would proc on the item. it evolved into a better system. and something along that line or what i mentioned above would not realistically effect anything about the way darkmoon cards work or are matched up. a card costing 5x the materials would only be used in the extreme example of what i explained above.

in general im against the idea of playing the auction house at the level or cornering markets like this. buying cheap, trying to sell higher is fair and everyone does this to some extent, but it has its limits. imo there’s a point when you aren’t just buying low, selling high, but have crossed a line into griefing other players. whether you care or not is up to you. i don’t do it because i try to treat others how i would like to be treated.

The first few days the trading system was robust… trading was very easy… some markets you just gotta get in early, or suffer later.

Just what it is.

You can’t always get what you want.

I understand where you’re coming from but I think it’s prefectly fine with the way it is now. It was like this in WotLK too with greatness and everyone accepted it.

I don’t think the bots would even care to make darkmoon cards and would rather just supply the herbs. People who play the AH also likely don’t profit off of it because the return is too little to flip unless they buy out all of the specific DMF decks and sell it for much higher than anyone would likely buy it at and you’d have to compete with others selling theirs.

That could’ve been the case, it could also have been that someone else simply listed it for higher because there wasn’t any on the market. Unless that person listed the item as like 10 stacks of 1 or something, if it was just 1 stack of 1 I doubt that they did that.

What do you “advantage of the system” people flipping? Flipping is completely fine.

So you don’t want to make easy gold… Gotcha, on the other hand flipping is as easy as opening your mail, your refusal to do it for morality reasons is honestly quite funny. Me buying out a supply and relisting it at 250% market value is fine, even 300% is fine, also the token right now is ~5k, 5k isn’t that much gold.

this pretty much sums it up for me. like i said, you can be okay with being greedy, and that’s up to you. but you can’t insist that it isn’t degenerate.

the system requires delving into the sludge and greed of the auction house to trade cards and make decks. and we have to deal with every joe schmo that greedily wants to leech off the system and flip cards. its not ingenious. buying someone else’s discounted short sale and relisting at market price or thereabouts is a lot different from trying to monopolize by buy out ALL of an item and trying to sell it for 3x its value. there’s a word for someone who makes their money magically for not doing any work: criminal.

is your argument that dmc deck crafting should be degenerate? that is should be controlled by whoever holds the most gold and sway over the auction house?

all im saying is that a system where we didn’t have to rely on this would be better for the people actually doing these professions. it would also allow for making more of the rarer cards that eventually crop up in a system completely based on rng and bring it some sense of balance.
