All gear should be BOA after equipping it. You “earn” it or got lucky with a drop, and then when you get an upgrade you just trash it.
What I am proposing is instead let us give it to alts. Will this be abused by “world first guilds”, sure, but who cares. Maybe there is a gold sink, or currency, or time lock (like once a month or something) to it as a way to alleviate abuse but idk.

This would encourage players to run as many alts as they possibly can through dungeons/raids etc so they could funnel all that gear to their main to become fully geared as fast as possible.
Sounds like an absolutely awful idea honestly.

This is an awful idea that would very easily 100% be abused by the 1% of top people.
I say go for it. It can’t get any worse than it already is.

They could prevent this by keeping items character bound until that character obtains a higher ilvl replacement for that slot, that way it was just a way to hand unwanted gear down to undergeared alts.
Yes. This should’ve been added years ago.

This is a horrendous idea.

I mean… if you just want fully geared alts for no extra effort I guess this is a good idea? But what’s the point of that?
I can boost and gear a DK alt to 298 ilvl with less than 5 mins /played using my Warriors old gear. Who really wants something like this and why? What is the point?

I don’t think this would be a good idea. They would just make the gear worthless in all but Ilvl like the other boa gear. They would figure out a way to ruin it, like lose 10% stats on every transfer.
I suppose but I feel like this would create a bad atmosphere among dungeon groups/raid groups. Players would have a reason to keep gear that they didn’t need because “it’s going to an alt” instead of trading it to another member of the party.
I understand the idea of it’s your gear and you can do what you want but it just seems like it would end up hurting more than helping.
Also there are already catch up mechanics in place for alts. This would just create a way for players to fully gear alts without ever doing content on them which I think is pretty dumb.

Even in the best light, this would be in so many ways be the same thing as someone who buys an account where a character has both the Twin Glavies of Azzinoth
Look up that story from TBC and you’ll see how that goes
It wouldn’t be ‘quite’ to that extreme but I am sorry but, I know how to play my class - I have no idea how to play let’s say a Subtlety Rogue at the same ilvl as my warlock, sorry but it ain’t a good idea to randomly allow people, whether in good faith or bad faith, inflate their ilvl for absolutely no reason besides “I don’t like playing on alts” (since the gearing up process is part of playing on an alt, whether one wants to speed it along with friends or not, the gearing process is part of the playing process)
For me at least it would make the idea of creating multiple alts of the same class more appealing. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do for RP purposes because I see certain races as being a better fit than others for certain specs, but I’ve never done it because of how much of a chore it is to level and gear up alts. Examples of what I’d consider doing are:
Marksman Hunter = Night Elf
Beast Mastery = Dwarf
Survival = Troll
Holy Priest = Lightforged Draenei
Shadow = Void Elf

I just logged back into P99 after a few months off. Made a new character. Took the armor I made (after maxing out blacksmithing) on another character and a few weapons and twinked my newb out. Gave him a leg up for the first 20 levels or so and made it so I didnt have just grey items.
Realized how nice that was, but thats a different game. Even end game items barely add stats, its all ac, dps or procs.
I do miss that kind of thing where you get a single weapon and you remember it because its that good and you use it across a dozen characters or so vs generic ilevel 31 1-hand sword.
Flaming Brand and Shiny Brass Shield FTW

I guess I am a different kind of player. I want my time spent leveling and grinding skill points and less on acquiring gear.
I actually like playing older EQ like P99 where even twinked out leveling characters can easily get owned if you are not careful, but if you get say 1 or 2 levels higher, its not hard at all.
I spend most of my time leveling characters and I just gear enough to do dailies at top level. I dont care to spend months getting a few ilevels that will be worthless at the next patch.
Like I said in my other post - getting a drop like a PGT can be a life changer for you account and alts by giving them a weapon you will not need to change while leveling - but at the same time, doesnt make the game God mode. Weird they can balance things that way…
Doing this would destroy the whole idea of character progression

I’d say make all low level gear BOA so we can collect interesting gear to level up our alts with. But I don’t think this idea should apply to level 60 gear.
I believe thats the idea of heirlooms

The things I would like to see made BOA are the exceedingly rare BOP drops for unique transmogs… do you know how infuriating it is to see one of those items drop for a character who can’t even equip it?
Also… legacy raid gear…
