As we slowly approach The War Within, where the player behind the keyboard will be taken into consideration more than just the character being played, I feel this is a good time to address the glaring issue with the crest system.
Overall, obtaining gear in PvE is relatively easy as long as you put in the time to do so, which is fair. What is really discouraging is looking at your gear needing to be upgraded and then doing the math on how long of a grind it is to get fully caught up on alts.
If there was a way we could make our crests account bound so they could be freely shared across our account, this problem would be easily resolved while also following the new direction WoW is heading next xpac (which is awesome btw).
As someone who enjoys both PvP and PvE, the difference in ease of gearing on the PvP side only makes this problem even more frustrating. I can fully gear my characters before ever stepping foot into a rated match as long as I’ve earned the conquest to purchase boxes to send to alts. Making crests earned by your main available to your alts would pretty much be the PvE equivalent to this.
Please let me know what you think. Am I off base here or is this something people agree with? Will the devs even see this? I hope so

Yep,
I’d rather grind on my main for alts than suffer the bottleneck which is trying to gear an alt this late in the season.

Will see what changes they make in war within, but they seem to always shy away from a gameplay where playing your main is the best/great way to gear your alt.

In the War Within we will have Warbound items we will obtain which can then be sent to our alts. These items will be more like catch up gear, which is nice because it will at least give us a way to start our alts off stronger than they normally would be.
Going into s4 I just don’t see a reason to continue gatekeeping people from gearing/playing alts anymore. If we’ve done the content and earned the currency, it should be to up to decide how it’s used. Especially on mains who have practically zero use for them anymore other than to upgrade the random myth track item you may get from the vault. Otherwise those crests are just sitting there collecting dust.
Having the crests be account bound would also be an easy way to keep current players engaged as things wind down towards the end of this xpac.
My friends aren’t always down to carry one of my many alts. I shouldn’t have to suffer through terrible pug players to gear my alt due to lower gear/io score of an alt.
It’s a mountain to climb on alts.
Personally I would just settle on something like this.
Once you have gained the achievement where you no longer need X crest on that character, you can send X crest to your other characters. Even if it is at a negative cost, as it is for upgrading to the next tier (90 X crests = 15 Y crests where Y > X in rarity).

Account wide crests are hard to balance because what if you got like 8 chars?
What we need is the ability to send crests to alts after a certain amount of weeks. I’ve geared out two alts and it takes on average 40 M+ runs to get all the aspect crests on-top of needing to do heroic for wyrms.
it needs to happen, I don’t know what to do with 300+ aspects on main. I want to enjoy the altmania, but do not want to run 40 m+s. Just make it account bound. Just freaking do it…

Just allow people to send crests over one month into the season. Also, just add a gear vendor halfway through the season for 90 crests for Myth gear, because I still haven’t got a trinket to drop the entire season for me.
You are just lazy. I’ve been in this season for less than 2 weeks and I went from 441 to 483 just solo queueing M+s. I play a less desired class too.
Post on that character. I would like the see the most lucky toon on earth

Put up or shutup, you trolling doofus.
You don’t need a luck to do that. Actually my luck has been terrrrrrrrrible. Didn’t get a single useable gear (besides one trinket) from LFR or normal (can’t get in heroics since no AOTC) Started from M+0 and made my way up to around +16~18 then farmed crests to upgrade and craft gears (weapon, two rings, and a necklace) As a late starter, I already have enough sparks to craft and resource to convert regular gears to raid gears. Took me near 2 weeks to get 2600 mythic score and 483 gear score. The hardest part was getting invites though. This week’s affix (incorporeal) is just not warrior friendly.
Agreed, that needs to be in the game from the start of the next expansion.

That person does not need to prove anything, he said “getting invites were tough”
OFC it is tough, that is the time sink part, that’s exactly why we want account bound crests…
I am sick of not being able to gear my alts… Is it because the top players would abuse it? well, they are already top players. They can put time more than anyone else in the community. These restrictions affect them less than the rest of us.
And something out of topic, screw retropassive achievements, why do I need to go to the old continents with every freaking major patch? How many times do I have to finis the argus quest line just to be able to rank my skinning abilities?
Everything is a huge time sink, everything. I’d not mind if they were actually fun, nothing but boring endless grind… Do not give me “but this is an mmo”, you know it is true that these things slowly but surely kill the game. And we all love the game…
They’ve made radical changes by destroying the faction barrier when they implemented cross faction guilds, dungeons and raiding. Would it be game breaking to allow crests to become bind on account? It’s a long overdue change.

A lot of things should be account bound. This game is pretty much raid-log unless you have alts, they should embrace alts.
